Student answer (Band 6.5)

People often argue that, it is normal for people to change their views and habits with the age. I completely agree with this statement becuase as individuals getting old they gain more kowledge and experience also their relationships change which help them to build their new habits and opinions.

The main reason why people change their habits and opinions is the change in their knowledge. In other words, the more the people geting older the more they are learning about life and things. As people get mature they start checking everythings based on their knowledge and try to cross verify the facts rather than relaying on others' opinions. Eventually they change their opinions with the help of their experiences. For example, children like fast food so much but when they get old and learn the negative impacts of junk food, they reduce or stop fast food consumption.

Furthermore, Family and friends play a significant role to change a person's behaviour. With the time everyone's relationships and friends change and when new people come in life, they bring their own opinions and habits which may be good or bad. Those new habits indirectly or directly affect opinions of their life partner or friends. For instance, marriage is a big change in a person's life. When two people live together they adjust and adopt each other's habits and respect their partner's opinion, which ultimately change their own habits and views.

In conclusion, I believe its is very normal in people to change their habits with the age due to their knowledge enhancement and change in their family and relationships.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that people change their habits and opinions as they age. You address both causes named in your response—growing knowledge and changing relationships—and support them with relevant examples, including children learning about the effects of fast food and partners adapting to one another. This gives the argument a clear, relevant basis. The explanation of learning through experience is reasonably extended, while the point about friends and family is more general: explain more precisely how a particular relationship changes someone’s views, rather than saying new habits affect people “directly or indirectly.” A more specific example or qualification would make the support more convincing and reduce broad generalisations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking phrases such as “In other words,” “Furthermore,” and “For instance” help readers follow the argument, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. Some connections are less precise, however. In the second body paragraph, the movement from changing friends to a marriage example is understandable but could be signposted more clearly as a specific illustration of mutual influence. There is also some repetition of “change” and “habits and opinions,” particularly in the conclusion. Use more varied referencing and make the relationship between each claim and example explicit to strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to explain the topic and give examples, including phrases such as “negative impacts,” “significant role,” and “adjust and adopt.” However, errors in spelling, word form, and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the phrasing less natural. Examples include “kowledge,” “geting older,” “cross verify,” and “knowledge enhancement.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “their opinions of their life partner or friends.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than assembling familiar words in unusual ways. Proofread spelling carefully and build a wider set of topic-related phrases for learning, relationships, and changing behaviour; this will make your meaning more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “when,” and “which,” and most of the argument remains easy to understand. Some grammatical errors persist in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “as individuals getting old they gain” needs a finite verb form, while “which ultimately change their own habits” does not agree with its subject. The opening also has an unnecessary comma after “argue,” and “its is very normal in people” is not a well-formed construction. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and the structure of clauses, especially after introductory phrases. More consistent accuracy in these areas would make your complex sentences clearer.
