Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued widely that a change can occur in people's ideas with advancing age. There are two school of thoughts whether the people have a flexibility in beliefs and thoughts or not. In my opinion a spectrum exists which spans both classes.

There is a famous saying that nature cannot be changed. One class of public is very rigid about their thinkings even with passing time. They don't want to alter their mind and want to spend a monotonous life without variation in any aspect of their life. This also applies to the policies of national and international politicians. For example, the higher authorities of North Korea are not ready to change their opinions towards other nationalities. Similarly, their public has never changed their habits and attitude and has never accepted others.

In this paragraph we would discuss the other extreme of population. They are those who welcomes new advances and incorporate them in their lives. They are receptive to newer technologies while changing their routine life and beliefs. For example, many aged people are using iPhones along with other smart phones and are making video calls who were previously thinking that these advances are destroying their lives. In recent era, they are modernized. This flexibility is beneficial according to this mindset.

As far as my opinion is concerned, I believe that people do change with passing time. This is the demand of hour and is useful for spending a prosperous and successful life. Acceptance of alterations and differences among our elders is becoming more and more common now a days.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your response addresses the question and gives a clear overall view: you believe people do change as they age, while recognising that some remain rigid and others are more receptive. The examples about North Korean authorities and older people adopting smartphones are relevant and help illustrate these contrasting groups. However, the discussion of the two groups takes up much of the essay, while your own position is stated most clearly only near the end. Some claims, such as that the public in North Korea has “never changed” its habits, are broad and not explained. Develop your reasons for agreeing more fully and connect each example directly to how age can influence habits or opinions; this would make the response more consistently developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting contrasting attitudes, and a concluding statement of your view. This gives the reader an overall route through the discussion. Some transitions, however, feel mechanical or do not accurately signal the relationship between ideas. For example, “In this paragraph we would discuss” sounds like a plan rather than a natural transition, and “As far as my opinion is concerned” repeats the introduction’s framing. References such as “This flexibility” are understandable, but the links between examples and the main argument could be clearer. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s point, then explain how the example supports it, and finish with a conclusion that directly reinforces your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss attitudes and change, including “rigid,” “receptive,” “incorporate,” and “flexibility.” These choices help distinguish the two groups and keep the topic clear. You also attempt more formal expressions, but some are unnatural or imprecise: “two school of thoughts,” “their thinkings,” and “the demand of hour” do not sound idiomatic. “Modernized” is also not the clearest description of older people adopting smartphones. These word-choice and collocation issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Build a bank of common academic collocations and check whether each phrase is used naturally in context; prefer clear, accurate wording over expressions that merely sound formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “those who welcomes new advances” and the contrast introduced by “while.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “There are two school of thoughts” has a plural agreement problem, and “They are those who welcomes” should use a verb agreeing with “those.” In “many aged people are using iPhones … and are making video calls who were previously thinking,” the relative clause is awkwardly attached, making the sentence structure unclear. There are also inconsistent article and number patterns, as in “a change can occur in people's ideas.” Practise subject–verb agreement and divide long sentences when the relationship between clauses becomes difficult to control.
