Student answer (Band 6.0)

Habits and opinions plays a vital role in human life. These decisions help us to make our life better. Some people argue that habits and decisions are much easier to replace , when an individual grows in life. I partially agree with this statement and I will explain it in the following paragraphs.

To commence with, it is immensely easy for a person to change his thoughts and habits when he gets older. When people get older, they have better understanding of the world. They know what is better for them because they have learnt from their previous experiences. For instance, A news article revealed that when individuals are under thirty years, they prefer to spend money rather than savings. However, later in life they understand savings can help them, when they are financially struggling because they have learnt from their experiences.

On the other hand, a few decisions cannot be changed even when a person gets aged. Their habits remain unchanged because they have become habitual to it. To cite an example, According to a survey which revealed that those people who starts smoking at young age, cannot simply change their lifestyle even though they understand smoking, can be harmful for their physical health.

From my perspective, not every opinion or habit gets changed when a person becomes older. Few habits always remain changed that is why people should adopt good habits in earliest stage in life. These opinions and decisions leads our paths to live a better life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree that habits and opinions change with age, while recognising that some remain fixed. You address both sides and give relevant examples, such as younger people learning to save and smokers finding it difficult to stop. This meets the task, but the ideas are not developed equally. The saving example explains how experience can change behaviour, whereas the smoking example mainly asserts that change is difficult; explain why a long-established habit resists change or add a specific illustration. The conclusion also introduces the unclear claim that “Few habits always remain changed,” which conflicts with your point that some habits do not change. Clarifying this and explaining how opinions, as well as habits, may change would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “To commence with” and “On the other hand” make the shift between your main points easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant claims. This coherent structure is a strength. However, some linking is mechanical, and the conclusion does not clearly follow from the body: “Few habits always remain changed” appears to reverse your argument about habits that remain unchanged. References such as “These opinions and decisions” are also vague. To strengthen progression, use more natural transitions, make each paragraph’s main claim explicit, and ensure the conclusion accurately summarises the position developed above.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “previous experiences,” “financially struggling,” and “physical health,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “To cite an example.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “decisions” where you mean habits or opinions, “gets aged,” and “become habitual to it.” Repetition of “habits,” “opinions,” and “decisions” also limits flexibility, while “Few habits always remain changed” makes your meaning difficult to interpret. Aim for precise, natural combinations and distinguish clearly between a habit, an opinion, and a decision. This would make your vocabulary more accurate and effective for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “when,” “because,” and “even though,” and most of your ideas can be followed. Some grammatical errors remain, however. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “Habits and opinions plays” and “These opinions and decisions leads”; use plural verb forms. There are also errors in clause construction and punctuation, as in “According to a survey which revealed,” and commas interrupt the sentence in “smoking, can be harmful.” Article and number choices need attention in “at young age.” Practise checking agreement, complete sentence structure, and comma placement, especially in longer sentences. More consistent control of these features would make your varied sentence attempts clearer.
