Student answer (Band 6.0)

I highly agree with the notion that it is quite usual for people to change their habits and their opinions as they get older because as humans we constantly learn and change the way we think and act as time unfolds.

Time is like evolution, what viewpoints everyday habits we had decades ago might be completely different from now. From my limted experience my eating habits were quite random and I never gave food a second thought whether what I was having everyday in my past years might affect me in the long run? This ideology has changed drastically for me, to function properly and to keep my body fit in the long run I had to to adopt healthy eating habits. This is universally true for each individual to change different habits as time progresses.

Likewise what mattered to us few years down the memory lane might be total of no adequate significance in the present or the forseeable future. It is scientifically proven that the opinion of the genral population changes over the due course of time. The govermental policies that we once believed in might be rectified to be made relevant today. People only believed in the two gender policy decades ago which totally contradicts with the present equal representation of each individual no matter how they choose their sexuality. To prove this every public place now has a gender neutral washroom in addition to the regular ones. In addition to this same sex marriage is legally recogonized across major nations giving people equal civil rights.

To conlude it is human nature to morph as we get old so be it habits or opinions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the opening—“I highly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both habits and opinions, supporting the first with your change in eating habits and the second with changing views on gender representation and same-sex marriage. These examples are relevant and give the response a clear line of argument. To strengthen the response further, develop the examples with more precise explanation: for instance, explain what prompted your dietary change, and how changing public attitudes led to the policy or legal changes you mention. Some claims, such as “This is universally true for each individual,” are broad generalisations. More qualification and specific support would make the ideas more convincing and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate discussion of habits and opinions, and a concluding statement. “Likewise” signals the shift from personal habits to social opinions, while “In addition to this” introduces a further example. This gives the reader a generally coherent progression. However, some links are mechanical or unclear, and the second body paragraph moves quickly from scientific claims to government policy, gender identity and marriage without explaining the connections between them. The opening of the second paragraph, “Time is like evolution,” also does not clearly establish the point that follows. To improve, use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main idea and add transitions that show how each example supports it, rather than relying mainly on linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “drastically,” “significance,” “representation” and “civil rights,” and the topic-specific language helps communicate your views. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “what viewpoints everyday habits” is unclear, “total of no adequate significance” is awkward, and “two gender policy” does not express the intended idea naturally. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “limted,” “genral,” “govermental” and “recogonized.” Aim for accurate, natural phrases rather than ornate wording, and proofread spelling. For example, “views and daily habits” and “of little significance” would express your meaning more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “which,” and your overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately. “Time is like evolution, what viewpoints…” joins two clauses incorrectly, while “whether what I was having everyday… might affect me” has an unclear clause structure. There are also errors in verb patterns and repetition, as in “I had to to adopt,” and the final sentence, “so be it habits or opinions,” is not grammatically complete. Work on separating independent clauses with appropriate punctuation and checking clause structure, articles and verb forms. Shorter, well-controlled sentences would help make your argument clearer while you build accuracy in longer ones.
