Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today's rapidly evolving world, the issue of changing habits as well as their opinions , has become a matter of considerable public interest, prompting widespread debate regarding its impact on other individuals and society as well. While some people firmly believe that it is very common for people to change both their habits as well as their viewpoints as they get older, others argue that it is very uncommon. I strongly agree that it is normal for people to have some alterations in their habiots and opinions, as it is evident that older people have had experience of all life stages.

The primary reason why I agree with this viewpoint that people change their habits and opinions because as the grow older, their priorities and their responsibilities change. This is largely attributable to the fact that they may replace unhealthy habits with healthier routines. As a result, they become more conscious of their health and well being. A relevant example of this can be see in young people may consume fast food frequently, wheras older adults may prefer nutritios, home-cooked meals. This clealy demonstrate that individuals find it common to have some change in their routines.

A further compelling arguement in support of my position is people gain knowledge and wisdom through their life experiences. Not only their exposure to different perspectives make them more open-minded, but also their views on careers, relationships, family responsibilities may evolve. For instance, young adults may prioritise earning money,, but as they mature, tnhey may value family relationships and work- life balance more highly.

Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that their change in opinions and their habits is beneficial for them.

To conclude, I firmly maintain that both habits and opinions tend to evolve as people grow older, as increased life experience, changing priorities, and greater maturity significantly influence their behaviour and perspectives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I strongly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both habits and opinions, giving relevant reasons: changing priorities can affect routines, while life experience can alter views on careers, relationships and family. The examples of choosing home-cooked meals and valuing work–life balance help support these points. This is a well-focused response with ideas extended and supported. To strengthen it further, develop the link between age and change with more specific explanation rather than broad claims such as “older people have had experience of all life stages.” The discussion of changing habits is illustrated more concretely than the discussion of opinions, so a specific example of a changed viewpoint would make the support more balanced. (The response meets the task’s length requirement; 11 words copied from the prompt were not counted.)

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “The primary reason,” “A further compelling argument,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the points they support. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some features of stronger progression. However, several transitions feel formulaic, and the sentence beginning “Not only their exposure…” is not smoothly connected to the preceding point. The reference in “Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that their change…” is also unclear because “their” could refer to people or to their experiences. Use more natural links and make references explicit to improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic and attempt some less common expressions, including “considerable public interest,” “priorities,” “life experiences,” and “work-life balance.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and meaning remains clear despite inaccuracies. However, some wording is imprecise or unnatural: “have had experience of all life stages” and “have some change in their routines” do not express the ideas idiomatically. There are also spelling errors such as “habiots,” “wheras,” “nutritios,” “clealy,” “arguement,” and “tnhey,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise collocations and proofread carefully; for example, describe routines as changing and use a natural phrase for gaining experience.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a reason clause (“because as they grow older…”) and a “Not only…but also” construction. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, “The primary reason why I agree… because” lacks a complete, well-formed main clause, while “A relevant example of this can be see in young people may consume…” combines incompatible structures. The “Not only” sentence also has faulty word order and agreement: “Not only their exposure… make them.” In the opening, the comma before “has become” separates the subject from its verb, and “money,, but” contains incorrect punctuation. Practise building complete clauses and checking agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries.
