Student answer (Band 5.5)

It has often been agrued that habits and opinions change gradually as we gets aged. It's true to most extend i agree to the statement. There could be some other factors as well such as experiences and the circumstances that we face it generally affects on a way a person think or does. But, most importantly age is one of the significant reason in changing one's beliefs and patterns of behaviour.

Primarily, talking about habits; as an individual grows into adult most of our habits gets transformed and few of them that we develop since our childhood stays the same. It's possible that some habits gets switched to another. For instance, some people have a habit of sleeping with lights on when they are young because they are scare of the surroundings due to many reasons. But, as they become adult this habit gets changed.

On the contrary, opinions regarding something transforms quickly as compared to habits. It is because one has few habits in themselves but millions of opinions about different things. Opinions are just like trends or fast-fashion clothes that shifts naturally on it's own. To exemplify, opinion concerning selecting clothes for an event changes in minutes when you will get aware of the theme of the event even though you had made your choice before in your mind.

To conclude, a person's habits and way of thinking alters by the passage of time. One gets modified with some time and the latter one can be adjust without any difficulty.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that habits and opinions change with age, while also recognising that experience and circumstances can contribute. The response addresses both parts of the topic and gives relevant examples, such as a childhood fear-related sleeping habit and changing a clothing choice after learning an event’s theme. However, the habits example is not clearly linked to ageing itself, and the opinions example mainly shows a quick change in preference rather than how opinions develop as people get older. The claim that age is a significant reason is also asserted more than explained. To strengthen the response, explain the mechanism behind each change and use examples that directly show how growing older influences behaviour or beliefs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs on habits and opinions, and a conclusion. The progression from one aspect of the topic to the other is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Primarily,” “On the contrary,” and “To conclude” help identify the stages of the argument. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical: “On the contrary” suggests a contrast, although the paragraph adds a second point rather than opposing the first. References such as “One gets modified with some time and the latter one” are also unclear, leaving the reader to infer which idea each phrase refers to. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and make pronouns and concluding references explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “circumstances,” “patterns of behaviour,” “transformed,” and “opinions.” The comparisons with trends and fast-fashion clothes also show an attempt to express ideas vividly. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “as we gets aged,” “scare of the surroundings,” and “opinions ... shifts naturally on it’s own.” There is also a spelling error in “agrued,” and some phrasing is imprecise, including “one has few habits in themselves.” These choices do not prevent the main message from being understood, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling and word forms when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “when,” and most ideas remain understandable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “as we gets aged” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “most of our habits gets transformed” also mismatches the subject and verb. In “even though you had made your choice before in your mind,” the tense and clause structure are awkward, and “the latter one can be adjust” has an incorrect verb form. Some sentences also combine ideas without clear grammatical links. Review agreement and verb patterns, and proofread each sentence for a complete, correctly connected structure.
