Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, Changes of habits and opinions are vey common when people get older has become a widely debated argument. While some people argue that people should stick to their old habits and their opinions without changing while get older, I strongly believe that it is common for people to change both their habits and their opinions as the get older.

The primary reason why I agree with this view is that people get more knowledge and experience when they get older. This is mainly because people have to deal with the society where people have different habits and opinions. In other words, people alwasy trying to learn more every day without stopping. You will learn a new thing everyday. For example, people learn how to ride a bicycle in their childhood. After they get older they will learn how to ride a bike with knoledge of all the mechanical side of the bike. So they already know how to ride a bicycle and they are improving it with knowledge about mechanical parts of bike. Which further supports the view that it is very common for people to change their Opinion as they get older.

Another compelling reason is that, world is moving each day by improving techology. So you cannot keep same ideas when world is moving with ideas. Furthermore, when we are children we had to use landline phone to make a call, but now technology improving fast. As a results, now everyone have smartphone to make a call, which further supports the view that it is very common for people to change their habits as they get older.

In Conclusion, although some people argue that people should stick to their old habits and their opinions without changing while get older, I firmly believe that it is common for people to change both their habits and their opinions as the get older because the growing knowledge and technology in the world. Therefore, I think it is never stopping people change both their habits and opinions as they get older.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that people commonly change their habits and opinions as they age, and you give two relevant reasons—gaining knowledge and experience, and adapting to technological change. The bicycle example attempts to illustrate learning over time, while the landline-to-smartphone example supports changing habits. However, the first example focuses more on learning to ride and understanding a bicycle than on a change in opinion, so its connection to the claim is unclear. The technology point also needs a more explicit explanation of how age leads to changed habits or views. Develop each reason with a specific, clearly linked example and explain its significance to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Each body paragraph presents a separate reason, and phrases such as “The primary reason” and “Another compelling reason” help signal the progression. However, connections between some sentences are unclear: the bicycle example shifts from learning to ride to mechanical knowledge, then concludes that this supports changing opinions without explaining the link. The conclusion repeats much of the introduction and ends with an unclear sentence. Some linking phrases, including “which further supports the view,” are repeated mechanically. Make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit, and use clearer transitions rather than relying on repeated formulaic phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “knowledge and experience,” “technology,” “habits,” and “opinions,” and the reader can generally understand your main points. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “vey,” “alwasy,” “knolledge,” and “techology.” Some expressions are also unnatural or unclear, including “world is moving each day by improving technology” and “with knowledge of all the mechanical side.” Repetition of “common,” “people,” and “change” further limits variety. Aim for accurate topic-specific phrasing and check spelling carefully; for example, describe technology as “advancing rapidly” and explain that people “adapt their routines” as new devices become available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “While,” “because,” and “when.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “while get older,” “people alwasy trying to learn,” “As a results,” and “everyone have smartphone.” There are also tense and sentence-boundary problems: “Which further supports…” is a fragment, and “when we are children we had to use” shifts inconsistently between present and past. Practise complete sentences, subject–verb agreement, articles, and consistent tense. For instance, write “As people get older, they gain experience” and “everyone has a smartphone.”
