Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is a very usual practice for humans to change their behavior and perspective over the time. While i acknowledge that due to education provided in schools and meeting different people can change the way adults think, I also believe that strong beliefs are hard to shift because of childhood influence and cultural impact.

On the one hand, people like to change as thay started getting older because of the awareness given by educational institutes which means these institutes teach students the difference between right and wrong practices. As a result of this, individuals start to adapt new routines and beliefs. Additionally, people meets and communicate with different groups of society very oftenly resulting in influencing youths' way of thinking and doing things.

On the other hand, there are some people who have difficulty with adaptation owing to strong upbringing practices. To elaborate, people react to a situation as per their thouhgts that have been developed since their early life and those mental thoughts becomes strong customs and rituals for them. For example, there are some tribal societies in the state of Bihar, India who still believe that education is not important for females as they grew up with this thought. Another reason could be, the cultural impact that people completely agree upon. People stick to their religious and cultural norms especially in a country like India where people are very difficult to shift from their spiritual beliefs.

In conclusion, despite the reasons like educational influence and impact of different peer has changed the peoples, thinking and habits, I would argue that early life experiences and religious thoughts are hard to change.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both sides of the question and make your position clear: education and contact with others can change people, but early upbringing and cultural or religious beliefs may be harder to alter. The examples about gender and education in tribal communities in Bihar and adherence to religious norms are relevant and help illustrate your view. This gives the response a clear, task-focused argument. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the link between meeting different groups and changing young people’s habits could be developed with a specific example. The conclusion also repeats the main position rather than drawing together the reasons. More balanced development and precise support would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. The main ideas generally progress in a logical order, and linking phrases such as “As a result” and “For example” help show relationships between points. Some cohesion is less controlled, however: the first body paragraph moves from education to social contact without a clear transition explaining how these causes relate. Phrases such as “Additionally” and “Another reason could be” can feel mechanical, while “these institutes” and “those mental thoughts” are not always precise references. Clearer links between claims and examples, and more varied referencing, would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “perspective,” “upbringing,” “cultural impact,” “customs and rituals,” and “religious beliefs,” which allows you to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems limit precision, such as “a very usual practice,” “awareness given by educational institutes,” “adapt new routines,” and “very oftenly.” Some expressions are also awkward or unclear, including “mental thoughts becomes strong customs” and “impact of different peer.” Spelling errors such as “thay” and “thouhgts” further reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations and check spelling: for example, use “a common tendency,” “adopt new routines,” and “frequently.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “as,” and “which,” and most of the argument remains understandable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur often enough to make some sentences awkward. Examples include “people meets,” “those mental thoughts becomes,” and “the impact of different peer has changed the peoples.” The opening also has inconsistent capitalisation in “i,” and the final sentence’s punctuation makes the phrase “the peoples, thinking” difficult to follow. Work on matching subjects and verbs, forming plural nouns correctly, and checking sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences clearer.
