Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the rapidly changing world ,it has become a topic of considerable debate that as the person grows older he tends to become more opinionated as well as it is also witnessed a stark change in their day to day habits. While other argue, even though people grow old they seem to stick to their orthodox beleifs and habits.I partially agree, that both habits and opinions changes as a person gets old.

When a person grows the life ladder, he gets discovered to a lot of fresh and new persepctives around the daily activities happening around their lives. They tend to absorb new information, they get intoduced to new technolgies and get to interact with people from different age brackets enabling them to expand their emotional and mental capability. With a rapidly changing world with rapid innovations, it can be easily observed that how there are major advancements in their daily habits. For instance, a decade ago majority of the people used to heat their food in the vessels available in their kitchens, with an invention of microwave it made the task of heating your food easy and hassle free.In addition, when a compartively older generation notices the way of living and listen to opinions of gen z(recent generation) they try to mould their opinions according to them so that both the generations are able to coexist better.

However, there is a chunk of older generation that seems to be true to their values and openions and the habits they are used to.There beleifs could either be orthodox or it could be full of wisdom that they don't want to change according to the rules of society. Those with orthodox mentality does not resonate with the way of living of the current generation and often do scrutanize them based on their habits and opinions. For instance, a lot of older genration do criticize the youth for promoting party culture and often through taunts on their values and intellectual level.

To conclude, getting older do invite changing habits and openions.Furthermore, coexisting with people from different generation definately shapes the perspective of older generation.Nevertheless,a huge population of older generation are comfertable with their original thought process and habits. In my opinion, the older generation should be welcoming in accepting better ideologies and varied opinions, but should also preserve their beneficial wisdom.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you partially agree that habits and opinions change with age, while recognising that some older people retain established views. Both sides are relevant, and the examples about microwave use and older people criticising youth culture help illustrate your points. The response therefore addresses the task, but the support is uneven. The microwave example shows a change in habits, yet it is not clearly linked to people changing their habits specifically as they age; it could instead describe general technological change. The point about generations influencing one another is promising but needs a more specific explanation or example. Develop these links and clarify how your examples support your view to make the argument more fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The shift from people adapting to new influences to those who retain their values is logical, and signposts such as “However” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening sentence is crowded, and the contrast introduced by “While other argue” is not clearly completed before your position appears. Within the first body paragraph, the move from new perspectives to microwave use and then to generational opinions could be linked more explicitly. Use clearer topic sentences and make each example’s relationship to the main claim explicit; also check punctuation spacing so the paragraphing and transitions are easier to process.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “perspectives,” “coexist,” “orthodox,” and “preserve their beneficial wisdom.” These choices show an effort to discuss generational change beyond basic terms. However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes distract the reader: examples include “beleifs,” “persepctives,” “scrutanize,” and “comfertable.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “grows the life ladder,” “fresh and new perspectives,” and “through taunts on their values.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling carefully. Replacing repeated general references to “older generation” with precise alternatives, such as “older adults” or “previous generations,” would also improve flexibility and clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “When,” “However,” and “so that.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. There are nevertheless some recurring errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “habits and opinions changes” should use a plural verb, while “a chunk of older generation” needs a more accurate article and noun phrase. In “Those with orthodox mentality does not resonate,” the subject and verb do not agree. Several long sentences also run together without appropriate punctuation, particularly in the introduction and first body paragraph. Review agreement and sentence boundaries, and divide overloaded sentences to improve control.
