Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that people change their habits and their opinions while growing older. In my opinion, habits and thinking change with time and wisdom ,but there are exceptions for some.

Firstly, people tend to change their habits according to age. Youngsters do not have enough time due to their responsibilities. So,youngsters have different lifestyle such as following trends, late night parties and eating unhealthy food. On the other hand, as they get older ,they get enough time to focus on their body .Thus, they switch their habits or lifestyle to a better version such as eating healthy food items and a good sleep schedule. This helps them to lead a peaceful and healthy life.

Furthermore, people change their opinions through experiences and circumstances. At a young age, people do not have any past experiences or maturity to handle their problems in lives. As they get older, they learn a lot of lessons and experiences from their past jobs, relationships or life. This not only helps them to make wise decisions but also changes their opinions about life.

However, some people do not want to change according to age or past experiences. For example, some people may stick to their habits and opinions for their whole life. They are stubborn due to their childhood lessons or any customs. So, they remain the same throughout their lives.

In conclusion, Although some people do not change by the time , most people change with time and conditions as they get older which broadens their knowledge and lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that habits and opinions often change with age, while recognising that some people remain the same. You address both parts of the topic and support them with relevant explanations, such as changing eating and sleep habits and learning from work or relationship experiences. The separate paragraph about people who resist change also adds balance. This is a well-focused response with ideas extended through examples, although some claims are broad—for instance, that young people lack time because of responsibilities, while older people have more time to focus on their bodies. Develop these points with more precise reasoning or a specific example to make the support more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: it introduces your view, discusses habits, then opinions, considers an exception, and concludes. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The links between ideas are generally clear, including the explanation that experience can lead to wiser decisions. At times, however, the transitions feel formulaic, and some references are broad or repetitive, such as repeated use of “people” and “as they get older.” Use a wider range of natural links between cause and result, and make references more specific so the argument flows without relying so heavily on explicit signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to explain your ideas, including “responsibilities,” “lifestyle,” “experiences,” “maturity,” and “stubborn.” However, the range is limited in places, and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural. “A better version” is vague when describing lifestyle changes, while “past jobs, relationships or life” is an awkward list. “Enough time” is also repeated and does not clearly express the contrast you intend. Aim for more precise collocations and avoid repeating general words such as “change,” “people,” and “life.” More natural phrasing would make your meaning clearer and give your argument greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including subordinate clauses such as “as they get older” and “although some people do not change.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “Youngsters do not have enough time due to their responsibilities. So” needs a space after the full stop, and “people do not have any past experiences or maturity to handle their problems in lives” has an awkward article and plural pattern. In the conclusion, “Although” should not be capitalised after the comma, and “by the time” does not fit the intended meaning. Review sentence boundaries, articles, and preposition patterns, while continuing to practise varied complex sentences.
