Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has been stated that as people grow, it is frequent that they tend to change their habits and opinions. I partially agree with the aforementioned notion and will explicate my thoughts in upcoming paragraphs.

On one hand, as people grow, there is continuous development of brain resulting in modified opinions. Explaining further, as people get more educated and tend to know more facts, their opinions and thoughts get updated accordingly. For instance, children oftenly change their career preferences when they get young. Consequently, knowledge plays a crucial role in getting opinions changed. Additionally, age is a great factor that can also make young ones think which originally they think were right , now is wrong. Being stubborn for getting toys in childhood and being annoyed with the same things ones turning into parenting phase could be a great example of it.

While, there are some habits that cannot be altered with time. Some habits such as being respectful, punctual and being a good leader do not alter as people grow. In fact, these habits get more strong with time. As an example, people who like to go to their workplace on time, regardless of their age always tend to be punctual. Furthermore, the moral values and ethics of a person remain same regardless of the time.

In conclusion, It is obvious that as the cognitive ability modifies, the habits and opinions get modified; however it does not contain all things such as moral values and ethics. Instead, these habits get more stuborn as people grow.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you partially agree, arguing that opinions can change with learning and age, while some habits and values remain stable. This addresses both habits and opinions and is supported with relevant examples, such as changing career preferences and punctuality. The explanation that education updates opinions is particularly easy to follow. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the claim that respectful behaviour and leadership remain unchanged is asserted rather than explained, and the distinction between habits and moral values becomes blurred in the conclusion. To strengthen the response, clarify what you mean by “habits” and develop each main point with a more specific explanation or example. Your position is present throughout, but its reasoning needs fuller development for a more complete response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from changing opinions to habits that may persist is generally logical, and signposts such as “For instance,” “Additionally” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This gives the essay a coherent overall arrangement. At times, however, the linking is mechanical or the relationship between ideas is unclear. “While” begins a sentence without a clear main clause, and “Consequently” does not quite express the relationship between the example and the preceding point. Some references, such as “these habits” in the conclusion, are also unclear because the paragraph discusses both habits and values. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make each connection and reference precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “cognitive ability,” “moral values,” “ethics” and “punctual.” These choices show an attempt to use more formal and topic-relevant language, and the meaning is generally understandable. Some less common expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “explicate my thoughts in upcoming paragraphs” sounds overly formal, “get more strong” is an incorrect collocation, and “habits get more stubborn” does not express the intended idea naturally. There are also word-form and spelling slips, including “oftenly” and “stuborn.” Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than elevated wording for its own sake; for example, say that opinions “evolve” and habits “become more ingrained.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “as,” “when” and “regardless of,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly in sentence construction, agreement and articles. For example, “there is continuous development of brain” needs an article or a different construction, while “which originally they think were right, now is wrong” has an unclear clause structure and mismatched agreement. “While, there are some habits” is also an incomplete or incorrectly punctuated opening, and “the moral values and ethics of a person remain same” is missing an article. Review sentence boundaries and check that subjects and verbs agree. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences easier to read.
