Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have their own perspectives and habits since childhood. However, it is very common for them to change both of these as they grow up. I totally agree with this statement. As individuals get older their priorities and the way to view situation change which impacts to change their habits and opinions. In this essay I will provide detail elaboration of my points.

First of all, as getting older their needs change with the time. In simple words, some habits such as waking up late in the morning, as they start working they have to wake up early. Moreover, they also change their habits if it affects their mental well-being. For example, during school days children used to wake up late according to their school time. But when they start working they wake up early in the morning to go for an office.

Secondly, their vision change with the time to see different conditions and things. In other words, during certain period of their lives what gives them a joy, they might change their perspective, if it affects them in a negative way. For instance, during their younger time they often eat junk or outside food without thinking about health but after 35 they start thinking about the side effects of junk food to their health.

Thirdly, in the world with changing lifestyle and technological development it is very important for a person to change their habits and opinion with the time as they get older to live a good life in this fast paced environment.

In conclusion, I strongly agree with this view as priorities, way of viewing situations and different lifestyle makes people to change their routines and opinions as they get older.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I totally agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both habits and opinions, giving relevant examples about waking early for work and becoming more conscious of the health effects of junk food. These examples make the response relevant and show the main reasons for your view. However, the discussion of changing opinions is less fully developed: the food example mainly illustrates a change in behaviour or health habits, rather than explaining how a person’s opinion changes. The point about technology and modern lifestyles is also asserted rather than supported. To strengthen the response, explain more directly what beliefs or opinions may change with age and why, and extend each main point with a specific example or consequence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, three body paragraphs signalled by “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “Thirdly,” and a conclusion that restates your position. The ideas generally progress from changing needs to changing perspectives and then to wider social pressures. This makes the essay easy to follow. Some connections are mechanical, however, and the third body paragraph introduces a broad point about technology without linking it clearly to the earlier examples. There is also some repetition of “as they get older” and “with the time,” while references such as “these” in the opening could be more precise. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its example explicit to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including relevant terms such as “priorities,” “mental well-being,” “perspective,” and “side effects.” These choices show an attempt to discuss both personal development and health. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, which limits clarity and flexibility: “the way to view situation,” “detailed elaboration of my points,” “their vision change,” and “a joy” do not express the intended ideas naturally. “Fast paced environment” is also a broad, familiar phrase rather than a precise description. Aim for accurate collocations and more specific wording, such as describing how people “view situations” or “reassess their priorities.” This would make your argument sound more fluent and precise without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “as,” “if,” and “when.” Most of the meaning remains clear, and the examples are generally understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “their vision change” needs a singular/plural agreement adjustment, and “as getting older their needs change” is not a complete, natural clause. In “as individuals get older their priorities … change,” punctuation after the introductory clause would improve accuracy. The sentence beginning “In other words, during certain period…” is also difficult to control structurally. Practise forming complete clauses and checking agreement and articles, while continuing to use subordinate clauses to show relationships between ideas.
