Student answer (Band 5.5)

Generally, people often change their habits and opinions as they grow older. ln my opinion, l completely agree with the statement because age can change our minds.

Firstly, people habits often change as they get older because they have more responsabilities with their families. For example: when you are young, you spend a lot of time with your Friends or you goes out to enjoy yourself. However, when you become adults, you may focus more on your families, and careers. As a result, they may develop better time management.

Secondly, people opinions can change as they get older because they gain more expérience and knowledg. For instance, when we are still young, we believe that the most important thing our life is money. However, after growing up we realize that families, projets, health and happiness are important. Meeting different people and learning them can also help us to develop our new perspective.

In conclusion, l strongly believe that people often change their habits and opinions as they get older. This is truthly because life expérience, more responsabilities ans knowledge can influence they way they think.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you completely agree that habits and opinions change with age, and you give relevant reasons about family responsibilities and gaining experience. The examples comparing young people’s social lives with adults’ focus on family and careers, and changing priorities from money to health and happiness, address both parts of the question. However, these ideas are brief and mostly general; for example, the point about meeting different people is not explained with a specific illustration. The response also does not meet the required minimum of 250 words, so the argument lacks the development and support needed for a fuller response. Extend each main point with a concrete example and explain how it demonstrates change over time.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “For example,” and “As a result” help readers follow the progression, and the contrast between youth and adulthood is relevant. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some stronger control through paragraphing and signposting. To make the progression more consistently clear, ensure that pronouns refer unambiguously to the people being discussed: “you” shifts to “they” in the first body paragraph. Also connect the final sentence of the second body paragraph more explicitly to its main idea, rather than adding it as a loosely related point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “responsibilities,” “time management,” “experience,” “perspective,” and “happiness.” There is some useful variety in describing changing priorities and adult life. However, the range is limited, and noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, as in “responsabilities,” “knowledg,” “projets,” and “truthly.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, such as “learning them” and “the most important thing our life is money.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make parts less fluent. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations, such as “learn from others” and “the most important thing in life.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “when,” and “after,” and most of the main ideas remain understandable. However, there are recurring errors in sentence structure and agreement. For example, “people habits” needs a possessive form, “you goes out” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “when you become adults” does not maintain consistent number. The conclusion’s “influence they way they think” also contains an incorrect pronoun form. Punctuation around “For example:” is not appropriate here, and the opening contains inconsistent capitalisation of “I.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject, matching verb, and consistent pronouns, while retaining your attempts at complex clauses.
