Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people have modifications in their attitudes while the time passes. It is widely believed that the changes must be adopted as an individual gets older. I firmly disagree with this notion and my perspetive will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.

The pivotal reason for this would be the human nature. In other words, the attitudes of several individual differs in many ways. While, some have positive outlook of people and nature, others look it in a different way. Being the same person who you are while the ages pass is particularly important. One should not change their life according to other people. They should stick to the same behaviour while they grow up.

The other important fact to note is that age does not matter. To explain this view, people can still follow the familiar routines even when the years pass because they should do what they want to and not what society expects. A person should enjoy their life according to their opinion and nobody has a right to affect that. To provide an instance, in a recent Victoria's Secret show many old models presented with the younger ones. This shows that even though a person gets retired they should follow their interests irrispective of their age.

To conclude, people should stick to their routines and opinions and should not think to change according to society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is clear: you disagree that people should change their habits and opinions as they age. You give two relevant reasons—personal nature and the idea that age should not restrict choices—and include an example involving older models. However, the response only partially addresses the question because it focuses mainly on opinions and social expectations, with little direct discussion of how habits may change over time. The reasons are also asserted rather than fully explained; for example, “One should not change their life according to other people” does not show why people generally do or do not change as they age. The example is not clearly connected to changing habits or opinions. The response is 21 words below the required minimum. Develop both parts of the topic and explain your examples more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The ideas are generally grouped by reason, and signposts such as “The pivotal reason” and “To conclude” help readers follow the basic direction. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear or repetitive. For instance, the first body paragraph moves from differences in attitudes to the advice to remain the same, without explaining the connection. The second repeats the idea of following personal preferences, and the Victoria’s Secret example is introduced without a clear link to the claim about routines and opinions. Some linking phrases, including “To explain this view” and “To provide an instance,” feel mechanical. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and make each example explicitly support the paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “attitudes,” “outlook,” “familiar routines,” and “society expects,” and you attempt more formal phrasing such as “pivotal reason.” This gives you enough range to communicate your general position. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, which makes parts of the argument less clear: “modifications in their attitudes,” “while the time passes,” and “look it in a different way” are not idiomatic in this context. There are also spelling errors, including “perspetive” and “irrispective.” Some wording is repetitive, particularly the repeated references to sticking to routines, opinions, and behaviour. Aim for accurate collocations and vary expressions for change, personal choice, and ageing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “even when the years pass because they should do what they want to” and a contrast beginning “While, some…”. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in agreement, sentence construction, and punctuation remain. For example, “the attitudes of several individual differs” has a plural agreement problem, while “While, some have positive outlook…” is incorrectly punctuated and lacks an article before “positive outlook.” The sentence “Being the same person who you are while the ages pass is particularly important” is awkwardly constructed, and “nobody has a right to affect that” needs an article. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, especially around introductory clauses.
