Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that many people tend to change their habits and opinions as they age. I totally agree with this statement as experiences and continuous exposure to knowledge are a part of the resons why people change as they grow older.

Firstly, as a person age, experiences tend to be one out of many reason while habits and opinions change. Hence, experience plays a vital role in how peopel behaves, communicates and even treat people. For example, a young guy raised in the village and later taken to the city after his junior entrance examination is not expected to behave or speak the same way when he finally returns from the city.

Secondly, exposure to knowledge is another reson why people change their habits and opinions as they age. As one grow older, the person tend to come across people from varioius geographical areas, books, podcasts and even life on social media. All these imcreases the person's knowledge and view about things and life in general. For example, a young girl finished her senior education in a town and moved to the university to study. on getting to university, she is been exposed to different people from varous age group, and multiple lectures. On getting visiting home for holiday, she bagan to encourage people on the importance of proper body posture as a result of the knowledge she has been exposed to.

In conclusion, experience is one reason why many people change their habits and opinions as they get older. Also, exposure to knowledge is another reason while habits and opinions change as people get older. Hence, i totally agree to the statement that most people are likely to change the way they behave and opinions as they get older.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction—“I totally agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both habits and opinions by giving two relevant reasons: life experience and exposure to knowledge. The examples of moving from a village to a city and attending university help illustrate how a person’s behaviour or views may change. This meets the task well, and the response shows some development beyond simply listing reasons. However, the examples focus more on behaviour and knowledge than on how opinions change, and the university example’s point about body posture is not fully connected to changing opinions. Explain more explicitly how these experiences alter beliefs, and develop the examples’ significance to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. The examples are placed alongside the relevant reasons, which supports the organisation. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical, and some references are unclear. For instance, “All these increases the person's knowledge” does not clearly identify the grammatical subject, while “On getting visiting home for holiday” makes the sequence of events difficult to follow. Use a wider range of natural links and make pronoun references and transitions between the example and its point more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including topic-relevant expressions such as “exposure to knowledge,” “geographical areas,” and “plays a vital role.” There is some attempt to vary wording through terms such as “experiences,” “behaves,” and “communicates.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “resons,” “peopel,” “varioius,” and “imcreases.” Some phrases are also awkward or repetitive, such as “as they get older” and “as they age,” which recur throughout. Build accuracy by proofreading spelling and learning common collocations; for example, “exposure to different perspectives” is more natural than “exposure to knowledge” in this context. More precise vocabulary would help express the distinction between changing behaviour and changing beliefs.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “while,” and “after,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “I totally agree with this statement as experiences and continuous exposure to knowledge are a part of the reasons why people change.” However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction recur. Examples include “as a person age,” “As one grow older,” and “the person tend to come across”; these subjects require matching verb forms. The sentence beginning “On getting to university” also needs clearer, more accurate construction. Review subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and edit each sentence for complete, correctly punctuated clauses. Greater accuracy across your complex sentences would strengthen this criterion.
