Student answer (Band 4.5)
Yeah it's true, people can change both their habits and opinions. As you grow older your state of mind and thinking may change. As you grow older, you choices and opinions change. As when I'm a child I thought to become a pilot. I wish to fly planes. When the planes are flying on the sky, it facinates me. I decided to become a pilot. But later on as, I grow elder my mind changes.
One day, I went to the clinic of a dentist for some treatment. I don't know why but his work facinates me and I finally decided to do BDS. I finally decided to persue dentistry as my profession.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You clearly agree that people’s habits and opinions can change, and the childhood ambition to become a pilot followed by a decision to study dentistry is a relevant personal example. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives little explanation of why people change as they age, and the final point about sports is left unfinished. The prompt asks about both habits and opinions, but the example mainly illustrates a change in career plans, so habits are not really discussed. The response also does not meet the 250-word minimum, which limits how fully you can explain and support your position. Develop both parts of the question with reasons and complete examples to make your answer more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic sequence: you state agreement, describe an early ambition, and then explain how a visit to a dentist influenced a new career choice. This gives the reader a simple line to follow. However, ideas are not arranged coherently throughout, and the answer ends abruptly with “Like wise in sports, with the”, leaving the final point incomplete. The repeated opening “As you grow older” also makes the progression feel repetitive rather than developed. Use separate paragraphs for your position, reasons, and examples, and connect each point with clear links such as “For example” or “As a result.” Make sure every paragraph and sentence is complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the central example, including “state of mind,” “decided,” and “profession.” The personal details about planes and dentistry also make the meaning generally understandable. However, the range is limited and some word choices or spellings are inaccurate, such as “facinates,” “persue,” and “grow elder.” The repeated use of “change” and “decided” also restricts variety. Aim to use more precise expressions for changing interests and career plans, and check spelling carefully. For instance, “become interested in” or “career ambition” would help you express the example more naturally and clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You communicate your main idea using mostly short, simple sentences, and the basic sequence of events can be followed. There is an attempt at a longer structure in “But later on as, I grow elder my mind changes,” but the tense and sentence construction are not controlled. Other errors include “you choices,” “As when I'm a child,” and “When the planes are flying on the sky,” where agreement, tense, and sentence patterns are faulty. The response shows very limited variety, and frequent errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the meaning. Practise accurate past-tense narration for your childhood example, and combine simple sentences with correctly formed clauses.
