Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many people change their opinions as they grow older, but rest of the society like to stick to their initial beliefs. While i acknowledge that education and interaction with distinct people can change someone's perspective, I also believe that parenting and social pressure can make anyone to stay on the same thoughts.

To begin with, education plays a vital role in the development of any person. A child always follow the morals that are being taught in school because it is very easy to mold a child at an early age. Therefore, it becomes easy for him to switch his opinions as the is under the influence of the information that is being provided to him by tutors. Another reason is meeting people of different beliefs can also change anyone's way of thinking. For example, peers or colleagues can change thoughts as people are communicating with them on daily basis and it creates a pressure on them to change the thinking.

On the other hand, nuturing makes it hard to transform opinions because parents are the one who spend most of time with kids and they are their first teachers and children usually follow the foot steps of their parents and like to remain on same thoughts as their parents taughts them. In addition to this, social pressure never allow people to change their cognitive skills which means it is expected from the people to adhere to the community rules. Consequently, people left with no choice to resist their opinions.

In conclusion, admittedly schooling and peers influence can compel someone to change but reasons like upbringing and communal pressure sometimes demnd to follow the dame social belifs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both sides of the issue by discussing influences that may change opinions, such as education and peers, and influences that may preserve them, such as parenting and social pressure. However, the task asks whether you agree or disagree that people commonly change both habits and opinions as they age. Your opening says you acknowledge change but also argues that people stick to initial beliefs, so your overall position is not fully clear. The response focuses almost entirely on opinions and does not meaningfully discuss changing habits. Examples are general rather than specific, and several claims—such as social pressure preventing people from changing—need explanation. State your degree of agreement clearly and develop relevant examples for both habits and opinions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph about factors that may change opinions, a contrasting paragraph about factors that may preserve them, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In addition to this” help signal the direction of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical, and the progression within paragraphs is not always clear. For example, the explanation about education moves from school morals to switching opinions under tutors’ influence without showing precisely how these ideas connect. References such as “it” and “them” in the peer example are also unclear. Make each paragraph develop one main point in a more explicit sequence, and use clearer references between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “perspective,” “social pressure,” “upbringing,” and “community rules,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “plays a vital role” and “adhere to.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “stay on the same thoughts,” “change the thinking,” and “resist their opinions.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “nuturing,” “demnd,” and “belifs” also reduce precision. Aim for natural combinations such as “retain their beliefs” or “change their way of thinking,” and proofread carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish habits from opinions and make the argument clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, using clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “which means.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message is generally understandable. However, there are some recurring errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “A child always follow” should be “A child always follows,” and “social pressure never allow” should be “social pressure never allows.” The phrase “make anyone to stay” uses an incorrect verb pattern, while “the is under the influence” appears to be missing a subject. Punctuation and capitalisation also need attention, as in “early age. Therefore” and the lowercase “i.” Review subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, then check each sentence for a complete, correctly punctuated structure.
