Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary era, it has become more common for humans to change their habits and opinions as they grow older. Here, I agree with the statement . Changing habits and opinions make people become more responsible, adaptable and expand their knowledge.

On the one hand, there are several factors which encourage people to change their habits over the time. The primarily reason is adaptability . For instance, in past people usually used letters to communicate with their log distance friends and family member. However, now with the use of technology they easily send messages through social apps. This changing habits from letter to use smart phones make relations to grow stronger.

Alternatively, many people would like to change their opinion if someone has a valid point and reasons. This encourages them to evaluate other points and perspectives better and leads them to take a better decision. For example, I wanted to become a surgeon since I was a child. However, I choose to become a physiotherapist as I got less marks in my higher secondary. One of my friend suggested me this course and after gathering all information from social media I decided to become a physiotherapist. As, physiotherapy is as important as any surgery. Surgery reduces the complications, but physiotherapy helps to live independent life without any post surgical complications. Thus, changing opinions expand our knowledge.

To conclude, changing habits and opinions is mainly consider as a positive changes in life. It makes society more responsible, adaptable and knowledgable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both habits and opinions, giving a relevant example of communication changing from letters to social apps and a personal account of changing career plans. The explanation that new technology helps relationships and that considering another person’s advice can inform a decision supports your view. This meets the task well, with some elements showing the development expected at a stronger level. However, the habits example mainly describes a change rather than explaining in depth why ageing prompts it, and the career example focuses more on your circumstances than on how people’s opinions generally change as they grow older. Develop these links more explicitly and extend the reasoning behind each example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing habits and opinions, and a conclusion. The examples are placed in relevant paragraphs, and signposts such as “For instance,” “However,” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. This gives the essay a coherent arrangement. Some connections, however, feel mechanical or unclear. “On the one hand” is not followed by a contrasting “on the other hand,” while “Alternatively” does not clearly signal the relationship between the two main points. The transition from your career choice to the general claim about opinions could also be smoother. Use linking phrases that express the precise relationship between ideas, and add a sentence explaining how each example supports your central argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “adaptable,” “perspectives,” “complications,” and “independent life.” These choices help communicate ideas about changing behaviour, decision-making, and healthcare. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “evaluate other points and perspectives.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, though, including “log distance friends,” “This changing habits,” and “take a better decision.” Spelling and word-form errors such as “knowledgable” and “primarily reason” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent understanding, but more natural collocations and accurate forms would make the argument clearer and more fluent. Review common phrases for discussing communication, choices, and personal development.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause (“if someone has a valid point”) and a contrast structure beginning “However.” Most ideas remain understandable, and the essay’s basic sentence structure is generally clear. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation. For example, “changing opinions expand our knowledge” needs subject–verb agreement, while “I choose to become” should use a past-tense form to match the narrative. In “as I got less marks,” the comparative construction is inaccurate, and “As,” is incorrectly separated from the sentence that follows. Check each sentence for agreement and tense consistency, and practise punctuating subordinate clauses correctly.
