Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely argued that elderly people's habits and point of views are remarkably different from how they were in the past. This statement is undoubtedly true. In the subsequent paragraph I will support this point of view indicating that learning and the physical shape change are the main causes to this.

First of all, people are continuously learning throughout life; through education, professional experiences or personnal experience;consequently, this has a major impact on a person's personality resulting in changes in their way of lif and way of thinking. In other words, It is undeniable that each individual had committed actions that he learned from it, he regrets and won't do it in the future, that illustrates how habits changes.

In addition to that, physical fitness is definetly declining over time, therefore, people's daily life adapt with the new capabilities and alter their habits. To put it differently, if someone is used to exercise everyday, having gym partners, discussing about topics related to health and wellbeing, they will influence each other and this will have a particularly beneficial impact on their health , their discipline and commitment, thus, their daily habits. However after getting old and probably having health issues forbidding him from excercising, the lifestyle will alter to a completely different one, probabely waking up late, having a chitchat with a friend at the cafee and reading newspaper.

To conclude, with no doubt, regardless of the lifestyle or the opinions they have had, grown ups are significantly different from what they were in the past.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that habits and opinions change with age, and you give two relevant reasons—learning from experience and declining physical fitness. The example of someone who stops exercising because of health problems helps illustrate how routines can change. However, the discussion of opinions is less fully developed than the discussion of habits: the first body paragraph refers generally to learning and regret, but does not give a specific example of how a person’s viewpoint changes. The second paragraph also focuses mainly on lifestyle rather than opinions. To strengthen the response, develop both parts of the question more evenly and explain how experience can alter a particular belief or attitude.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Its progression from learning to physical change is easy to follow, and signposts such as “First of all,” “In addition to that” and “To conclude” make the organisation clear. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, several transitions feel formulaic, particularly “In other words” and “To put it differently,” which repeat or restate the preceding point rather than advance it. Some references are also unclear, such as “they” after “someone” and “him” when discussing a general person. Use fewer stock transitions and make pronoun references consistent and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “professional experiences,” “physical fitness,” “capabilities,” “discipline” and “commitment.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and attempts at more formal phrasing are evident. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “point of views,” “physical shape change,” “daily life adapt” and “discussing about topics.” Spelling errors—including “personnal,” “definetly” and “probabely”—also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit precision. Check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, for example “points of view,” “physical changes” and “discuss topics.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including cause-and-effect clauses and conditional examples, as in “if someone is used to exercise everyday…” and “after getting old and probably having health issues…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include “each individual had committed actions that he learned from it,” where the tense and pronoun structure are faulty, and “habits changes,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect. The long sentence beginning “if someone…” also shifts from “someone” to “they” and then “he,” making the structure less controlled. Work on consistent pronouns, agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries; breaking some long sentences into shorter units would improve accuracy.
