Student answer (Band 6.5)

Habits are a part of a person's personality and help build discipline in life. Many people say it is very usual for humans to alter both their habits and judgments while getting older, and I highly agree with this.

A person has a routine built on his habits and opinions, which helps him live a life based on a few principles. As a person gets older, the perspective of thinking behind things changes. This change can be a result of the surrounding or changing environment. This leads to change in the opinions and habits of the individual gradually over the passage of time. For instance, in the past people were against the love marriage of two adults as it was considered incoventional and immoral for the opposite genders to unite and fix their marriages on their own. However, that perspective started replacing with the idea or opinion that it is better for a couple to have compatibility before marriage to avoid a lot of personality differences in the future. Hence, this resulted in a lot of love marriages now.

Habits are the actions that a person has developed over the passage of time and opinions are more of a mixture of a persons' cognitive thinking and impact of surrounding. These can also be changed with the passage of time with the help of others as a person becomes more considerate of others once older in age. A person has learned the art of letting go as an adult which is really difficult as a young man. For instance, the person stops whining about small inconveniences with the passage of time and starts being thoughtful to others. Hence, a lot of habits keep varrying gradually.

In conclusion, the habits and opinions of people can be changed easily while getting older as a person is affected by his surroundings and also people around him.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I highly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both habits and opinions, and the examples about changing attitudes to love marriage and becoming more considerate as an adult are relevant. This meets the task well, while the explanation of why ageing itself prompts change is less fully developed: the first example mainly describes a broad social shift, rather than showing how an individual’s views change with age. The point about “letting go” is promising but would benefit from a specific personal or observed example and clearer explanation. To strengthen the response, develop each reason with a more direct link between growing older and the change described.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each body paragraph has a central focus, and examples help illustrate the discussion. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “However,” and “Hence” make the relationships between ideas visible. At times, though, the progression is somewhat mechanical, and some references are unclear. For example, “This change” and “This” in the second paragraph require the reader to infer exactly which change is meant; “that perspective started replacing” also makes the connection between the old and new views difficult to follow. Use more precise references and explain the link between each example and your main claim, rather than relying mainly on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “perspective,” “compatibility,” “inconveniences,” and “considerate.” These choices help express ideas about changing attitudes and behaviour. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “cognitive thinking,” though this is not a natural collocation; “thought processes” would be clearer. Some word choices are imprecise or repetitive, including “very usual,” “surrounding,” and repeated uses of “change” and “passage of time.” Spelling errors such as “incoventional” and “varrying” also affect accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and precise alternatives, and proofread spelling so that your vocabulary range is conveyed reliably.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “as a person gets older” and “once older in age.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “that perspective started replacing” needs a passive construction (“started to be replaced”), and “a persons’ cognitive thinking” has an incorrect possessive form. In “A person has learned the art of letting go as an adult,” the tense and phrasing do not fit the general claim as smoothly as a present-tense construction would. There are also some awkward sentence patterns that make relationships between clauses less clear. Review passive forms, possessives, and tense consistency while continuing to use complex sentences.
