It is very common for people to change both their habits and their opinions as they get older.
Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
People must update their habits and opinions as they grow older. I agree with this statement as they gain more experience as well as learn many things throughout life.
To begin with, there are many reasons why individuals change their daily habits as they get older. The first and foremost reason is that they acquire life lessons with age. To expand on this, when people are young, they do not respect time and their money because their most crucial priority is entertaining themselves. They waste time and money watching TV and going to celebrity parties with friends. This preference makes them immature and careless about the future. However, as they grow older, they learn from their mistakes or others, and they focus more on family, health and work. For instance, young people learn time management and saving money in later life. Thus, people gain life lessons from their adulthood mistakes; they become mature in old age.
Moreover, people's opinions can differ because of life experiences. They meet distinct people and learn various things from their education, job, family responsibilities can change their way of thinking. For example, taking care of children's requirements can make them more responsible, as they know these priorities affect their children's behaviour too, So make decisions wisely.
In conclusion, I completely agree that people's thinking process and behaviour change when gain experience and become more mature as they live more years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you agree that habits and opinions change with age. You address both parts of the prompt, giving reasons about learning from mistakes and how family responsibilities can influence thinking. The examples of saving money and caring for children are relevant, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that young people waste time and money at celebrity parties is broad, and the link between children’s behaviour and adults’ decisions needs clearer development. The response also falls 15 words short of the required minimum. Add a little more explanation or a specific example to develop the less-supported ideas and meet the task requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing habits and opinions, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages, and the central position remains consistent. This organisation is effective, though some connections within sentences are less clear. In the second body paragraph, “They meet distinct people and learn various things from their education, job, family responsibilities can change their way of thinking” combines several ideas without showing their relationships. The final example also shifts abruptly to “So make decisions wisely.” Use clearer sentence boundaries and refer back explicitly to the point being explained; this would make cohesion more flexible and less dependent on signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss maturity and changing behaviour, including “life lessons,” “time management,” “family responsibilities,” and “way of thinking.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some topic-specific phrasing helps the response stay relevant. There are, however, several imprecise or unnatural expressions that limit precision. “Their most crucial priority is entertaining themselves” is awkward, while “learn from their mistakes or others” does not clearly express the intended meaning. “Distinct people” is also less natural in this context than a phrase such as “people from different backgrounds.” Aim for accurate collocations and more precise wording, especially when explaining examples, while retaining the useful topic vocabulary already present.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including subordinate clauses such as “as they grow older” and “because their most crucial priority is entertaining themselves.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. In “They meet distinct people and learn various things from their education, job, family responsibilities can change their way of thinking,” the clauses are joined incorrectly; separate them or connect them with a suitable conjunction. “So make decisions wisely” is also an incomplete sentence, and “when gain experience” in the conclusion needs a subject and a correctly formed clause. Review sentence boundaries, subject–verb structure, and punctuation, while continuing to use complex sentences.
