Student answer (Band 6.0)

People changes their opinions and habits as they grow older. I am completely agree with this statement. This happens because they evolve with time and age.

Firstly, changing opinions and habits with growing age is natural. We cannot except a teenager to have opinions and habits like he used to have in his childhood. Different age groups might have different thinking pattern. For example, childrens of age 4 to 5 will choose to watch cartoons over serious TV dramas and on the other hand adults will love to watch something more realistic. Additionally, during our teenage, we might have habit of dancing or playing football. However, those habits are not possible to be carried forward till our old age.

Moreover, growing experiences could also be a reason why people change their opinions. In a same way, with a growing age, realisation can create impact of habits. For instance, in my childhood, I used to bite my nails. My parents tried educating me but is was my habit. However, after some years I realised how embarassing it is in public to bite nails. This realisation happened because of aging.

In conclusion, people change their thinking patterns and their day to day habits according to their age. As human evolve, they collect experiences. And those experiences make them learn new things. So, changing opinions and habits are natural and their is nothing bad in it. Because, opinions and habits cannot be same forever. This is a neccesary change and that must go on.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you completely agree that people change their opinions and habits as they age. You address both parts of the question and give relevant support, including the contrast between children’s and adults’ viewing preferences and your personal example of stopping nail-biting. These examples make the response relevant, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that dancing or playing football cannot continue into old age is too broad; explain that interests or physical ability may change, while some people continue these activities. The paragraph about experience also focuses mainly on a habit, so develop more directly how experience can alter opinions. A little more qualification and explanation would make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs give reasons and examples, and a conclusion restates the position. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger organisation. However, links can feel mechanical, and some connections between ideas are not fully clear. For example, “In a same way” does not accurately signal the relationship between experience and habit change, while “realisation can create impact of habits” is difficult to follow. Use more precise transitions and make the relationship between each reason and example explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including terms such as “opinions,” “experiences,” “realisation,” and “thinking patterns.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts of the response awkward or less clear. Examples include “different thinking pattern,” “create impact of habits,” and “evolve with time and age.” There are also spelling errors such as “embarassing” and “neccesary.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they show that vocabulary is not yet controlled consistently. Aim for natural combinations of words and check spelling carefully; precise phrasing will also help you explain your ideas more convincingly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrast with “However” and a conditional example beginning “We cannot…” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction. For example, “People changes” should be “People change,” and “childrens of age 4 to 5” needs a correct plural form and article structure. In “My parents tried educating me but is was my habit,” the pronoun and clause construction are faulty. The final lines also include fragments beginning “And” and “Because.” Review agreement and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use complex forms with careful checking.
