Student answer (Band 6.0)

Change is necessary in life. It is usual for people to change their perspectives and habits by the time they get older. I totally agree with the notion. I firmly believe that the experience teaches a lot in our life and it is the major factor contribute to this notion. The power of making the right choice like to alter habits and point of views are based on the outcomes of certain situations occured in a life.

To begin with, it is difficult to adapt and change the habit until people faces the problems. For instance, everyone knows smoking is dangerous and cause various health diseases. But, due to influence of others, thinking it look cool, or it reduce stress, or the way to connect with the others they end up being okay to have one cigarette a day. Then gradually it increase and when the habit affects the relationships or health they give efforts to change it.

The power of judgement comes when people grown up. The person can think all the pros and cons of all the scenarios. Career, for example, in childhood we pretend to be doctor, teacher, police, and many more roles by thinking it would be the best for us to be like that. However, after time people finds suitable career based on the skills, inetrest, and education.

In conclusion, I would like to reiterate that the experience is the best teacher. People form their thoughts and adapt new habits because of the experiences they faced in their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you “totally agree” that people change their habits and opinions as they age, and the conclusion returns to the idea that experience shapes both. The smoking example supports your point about habits, while the career example illustrates how views and choices can change with maturity. This addresses the task and gives relevant reasons. However, the career discussion focuses more on choosing a suitable job than explicitly explaining how opinions change, and the main claim that experience is the key factor could be developed with more specific explanation or a personal example. Extending these points and linking each example more directly to changing with age would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with separate examples, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “To begin with,” “for instance,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument, and the smoking and career examples are placed in relevant paragraphs. The progression is generally easy to follow. Some connections are less smooth, however: the opening body paragraph moves from social influence to health and relationships without clearly explaining each step, while the career example could be linked more explicitly to the claim about changing opinions. The repeated focus on “experience” in the introduction and conclusion also makes the ending somewhat repetitive. Use clearer links between each example and the central argument, and vary how you refer back to key ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “perspectives,” “influence,” “pros and cons,” “suitable career,” and “experiences.” These choices allow you to discuss both habits and decisions, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the major factor contribute,” “the power of judgement,” and “give efforts to change it.” There are also spelling errors, including “occured” and “inetrest,” and some repetition of “experience” and “change.” These issues limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling; for example, “make an effort to change a habit” is more idiomatic than “give efforts to change it.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a conditional-style example beginning “when the habit affects…” and a contrast introduced by “However.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas can usually be understood. There are nevertheless several errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “the experience teaches a lot … and it is the major factor contribute” needs a corrected verb pattern, while “people faces” and “it increase” show agreement problems. The sentence beginning “The power of making the right choice” is also difficult to control grammatically. Work on subject–verb agreement and build longer sentences around clear, complete clauses; proofreading these patterns would improve accuracy and readability.
