IELTS Writing Task 1 question
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sir or Madam
i have been enjoying countryside long walk for years. Admiring the nature is great pleaure for me. I love to observing the animals and taking pictures of these animals. Taking pictures of animals is my passion and it's gives me much happiness. The countryside is palace where i forget everyday problems of my life. I hope that it bring joy to everyone.
However, recently i start notcing that many people left trash around the place. A large amount of palstic bag, bottels, tires etc. Beacuse all of this beauty of countryside gone day by day and it's also a cause of polution in environment. The litter in trash is more dengrous for animals.
This problem we need to solve as early as possible. And people those throgh trash in this area i recommand needs to fine these peoples.
For that council should need to install cameras in this area. And other way of handling with this situation need to send police petrol often there.
I hope you consider my application.
Sincerely,
Ali Shan

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You explain your enjoyment of the countryside, identify litter as the problem, and propose measures such as fines, cameras, and more frequent police patrols. These points are relevant and give the letter a clear purpose. However, the response only partly develops the likely task requirements: the effects of the litter are stated generally, and the proposed actions are not explained in detail. For example, you say the litter is “more dangerous for animals” but do not describe how it harms them. The request to the council could also be made more explicit and supported with a clearer explanation of why these measures would help. Developing these points would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable progression: you introduce your connection to the countryside, describe the litter problem, suggest solutions, and close politely. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and transitions such as “However” and “For that” show an attempt to connect ideas. This coherent overall arrangement supports the reader. Some links are nevertheless mechanical or unclear. For instance, “This problem we need to solve” does not smoothly connect the problem to the recommendations, while “And other way” repeats the same linking pattern rather than guiding the reader naturally. The reference in “all of this beauty” is also unclear. Use more precise transitions and connect each proposed action directly to its intended result.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “countryside,” “trash,” “animals,” “pollution,” “cameras,” and “police patrols.” Phrases such as “taking pictures” and “everyday problems” communicate personal reasons for valuing the area. However, the range is limited, and noticeable spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the message harder to understand: “pleaure,” “palstic,” “bottels,” “polution,” and “dengrous.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “countryside long walk” and “fine these peoples.” Aim to learn accurate topic vocabulary and common collocations, then proofread spelling. More precise terms for litter’s effects and the council’s enforcement measures would make the letter clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can generally follow the main message. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “I love to observing,” “it's gives me,” and “I hope that it bring”; these need forms such as “I love observing,” “it gives me,” and “I hope that it brings.” The sentence “A large amount of plastic bag, bottles, tires etc.” is a fragment, while “For that council should need to install cameras” has an unclear grammatical structure. Practise building complete sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement and use a mix of simple and subordinate clauses, checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
