Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

My name is Gursahib singh, I am the resident of 2230 eva lake, Whistler. I am writing this letter to address the issue related to the litter which was found by me on countryside. I would like to give this information for the newspaper so that we can gain some attention on this by community people.

Every morning I start my day with the long walk and for that I found the place near to my house which is very quite and peacefull. I enjoy my walk because the park is spaces along with ballooming flowers and plants. Also I love to do some outdoor excercise at that time.

I encountered the litter by the side of route while walking which was very disapponted to me. I seen the small wraps of candies long with some plastic bag on the way. I know there are few dustbins around the park but we can make the walk to put this waste in the right place.

I would like to suggest that the munciple dpartment could arrange few more dustbins aound the area so that is can be easy to put litter in it. I also suggest native people to be resposible to disppose their waste in right place. We all need to step forward to solve this problem.

I am looking forward to hearing from you in the morning newspaper about this issue.

Thanking you in anticpeting.

Yours sincerly,

Gursahib Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you explain that you walk each morning near your home and enjoy the quiet park, describe sweet wrappers and plastic bags, and recommend more bins and greater responsibility from local people. The purpose of writing to the newspaper is also clear. These relevant details meet the task well, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the enjoyment of the walk is supported by references to flowers and exercise, while the proposed solutions would be stronger with a little explanation of how the newspaper or community could encourage action. The description of the litter is clear but brief. Developing these points with specific examples would make the letter more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it introduces the issue, explains your walking routine, describes the litter, and then offers solutions. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Also,” “I also suggest,” and “We all need to step forward” connect related points. The progression is generally clear, though some connections are mechanical or imprecise. For instance, “I would like to give this information for the newspaper” does not link the purpose to the issue as naturally as it could, and “I know there are few dustbins around the park but we can make the walk to put this waste in the right place” is difficult to follow. Use clearer references and more precise transitions to make relationships between ideas easier to understand.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “litter,” “plastic bag,” “dustbins,” and “community.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision. Examples include “quite and peacefull,” “ballooming flowers,” “small wraps of candies,” and “dispose their waste in right place.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the general message, but they can make the letter less fluent and occasionally require interpretation. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common combinations such as “sweet wrappers,” “blooming flowers,” and “dispose of waste.” A broader range of precise language for describing the problem and proposing action would also strengthen the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use mostly simple sentence patterns, with some attempts to connect clauses, for example, “I would like to suggest that the munciple dpartment could arrange few more dustbins…” This gives the letter some structural variety, but attempts at longer sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. In “I seen the small wraps,” the verb form is incorrect; “I am the resident” needs an article or a different construction; and “so that is can be easy” has an unclear subject and faulty structure. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build longer sentences from reliable patterns, checking each clause for a clear subject and verb.
