Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to complain about more and more trash were thrown by individuals who come to walk in the contryside near my home.
In my daily routine I prefer to walk as it keeps me fit as well as I feel more energetic. I always go to the countryside which is near my house as it is far from the main road there are less noice and due to that I feel very peacefull while walking.
Since last 3-4 days i have been looking at the waste on ground which were thrown by people who come there for a walk. As i saw so many plastic bottles as well as i saw some empty packages of the fast food. Due to this litter it was very hard to walk there as it smells very bad.
Therefore, I suggest that you can advertice in your newspaper regarding to these problem so people can know and stop throwing on ground. Moreover, there should be more dustbin provide so individual can use for throwing there waste.
I hope you take this letter seriosusly and can take some steps to prevent these cause. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as posible.
Yours faithfully,
Sahil.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that walking keeps you fit and describe the quiet countryside near your home, identify plastic bottles and fast-food packaging, and propose newspaper publicity and more bins. The purpose is clear from the opening complaint, and the closing is appropriate for a letter to an editor. Some points are less fully developed than others: the description of the litter is brief, and the proposed measures would be stronger if you explained how bins could be placed or maintained, or suggested enforcement or community action. The letter therefore covers the task with relevant ideas, but does not yet extend and support them consistently.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the problem, explains your enjoyment of walking, describes what you have seen, and then offers solutions. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Therefore” make the relationships between ideas apparent. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. For example, “Therefore” does not clearly show how the description of unpleasant litter leads to newspaper advertising, and “Due to this litter it was very hard to walk there” could be linked more explicitly to the smell. The repeated use of “as well as” also makes some sentences feel mechanical. More varied, accurate transitions and clearer references would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “plastic bottles,” “empty packages of the fast food,” “dustbin,” and “prevent.” However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations, and spellings are noticeably inaccurate, which can make the letter less natural. Examples include “trash were thrown,” “advertice,” “seriosusly,” and “contryside”; “waste” and “litter” are also repeated rather than varied. Aim to use more precise expressions such as “litter has been left along the paths” and “fast-food wrappers.” The meaning remains generally understandable, but more accurate and varied vocabulary is needed for greater flexibility and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause “as it is far from the main road” and the result clause “Due to this litter it was very hard to walk there.” The overall message is understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “more and more trash were thrown” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “there are less noise” has an incorrect comparative construction. Tense and sentence structure also need attention in “Since last 3-4 days i have been looking at the waste … which were thrown,” where the time expression and clause forms are not well controlled. Practise checking agreement, articles, and clause construction, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
