Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

My name is Zubair and I am a resident of Sahar Villas. I am writing to highlight an issue regarding litter in the park, which I observed recently.

Everyday, I walk in Sahar Villas's community park from 6am to 8am. I am enjoying this exercise from last five years. The green atmosphere in the park amuses me a lot, and the freshness of air makes me feel happy.

Unfortunately, I am noticing that more and more litter left in the park by other walkers. Last month, I highlighted this issue infront of park manager. But he is unable to deal with this rising problem. In my opinion, this is affecting the ecosystem and the clean atmosphere of this park.

I want to suggest a solution for this very problem. The municipal committee should interfere in this matter. In other words, committee may assign a team of workers who would ensure to remove litter from the park. For this purpose, the muncipal members may collect money from the residents of this area.

I hope you will highlight this issue in your newspaper.

Yours faithfully,

Zubair.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that you walk in the community park for exercise and enjoy its greenery and fresh air, describe the growing litter problem, and propose a municipal clean-up team funded by residents. The purpose of writing to the newspaper is also clear. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The litter itself is not described in detail—for example, you do not say what kinds of rubbish you have seen—and the proposed solution could be explained more specifically, such as how the team would be organised or how walkers could be encouraged to dispose of rubbish responsibly. These relevant ideas make the letter effective, but fuller supporting detail would strengthen its coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening that states its purpose, separate paragraphs about your walks, the litter, and a proposed solution, followed by a suitable closing. This makes the main points easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Unfortunately,” “In my opinion,” and “In other words” to signal relationships between ideas. Some connections are less smooth, however: “In other words” introduces a practical proposal rather than a restatement, and “For this purpose” does not clearly explain the link between collecting money and removing litter. The progression is generally logical, but more precise links and clearer references to the committee and team would make cohesion more flexible and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the topic and includes some useful expressions, such as “rising problem,” “ecosystem,” and “municipal committee.” The reader can understand your concerns and proposed action throughout. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices and spelling errors. “Interfere in this matter” is not the natural verb for official action, while “amuses me” does not convey the pleasure you mean; “municipal” is also misspelled as “muncipal.” “Litter” and “problem” are repeated without much variation. Aim for more precise collocations and a few topic-specific terms, such as “rubbish bins,” “litter collection,” or “enforcement,” while checking spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “the park, which I observed recently” and the conditional-style description of what workers “would ensure.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with tense and verb forms: “I am enjoying this exercise from last five years” should use a present perfect form, and “I am noticing that more and more litter left” needs a complete verb construction. There are also errors in agreement and possessive structure in “the green atmosphere in the park amuses me” and “Sahar Villas's community park.” Review tense choices for ongoing situations, articles, and sentence punctuation. Greater accuracy across these patterns would make the letter more controlled.
