Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The letter begins appropriately and identifies the general issue: plastic litter left by visitors in a nearby park. You also explain that you enjoy the lake and mountain views and walk for fitness. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it does not clearly describe different kinds or amounts of litter, and it gives no practical suggestions for solving the problem. The final phrase, “For this reason,” is unfinished, so the request for assistance is not developed into a clear appeal to the newspaper. The response is also 38 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to cover all three bullet points. Add specific examples of litter and realistic actions, such as more bins or a public awareness campaign.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation: the opening states the purpose, and “To begin with” introduces information about your walks. The reader can follow the broad movement from the problem to your personal experience. However, the letter has no clear overall progression because it stops midway through the discussion, and the final “For this reason,” does not lead to a complete idea. Linking phrases such as “In particular” and “For this reason” are attempted, but the latter is left unsupported. Separate the letter into clear paragraphs for your enjoyment of walking, the litter you have observed, and proposed solutions. Complete each idea before moving to the next, and finish with a direct request to the newspaper.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small range of relevant vocabulary, including “pollution,” “plastic litter,” “visitors,” “lake,” and “mountains,” which makes the topic recognisable. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or combinations are unnatural or unclear, such as “parks refreshment,” “out going person,” and “plastic wrappers which is due to the visitors leaving behind.” The spelling error “reagrding” also affects accuracy. More precise language would help you describe what you have seen and make suggestions—for example, naming bottles, food packaging, or overflowing bins. Aim to use natural collocations and check spelling, while avoiding repetition of “park” and “visitors.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple statements and an attempt at a longer sentence, such as “When i go to park i enjoy the view of lake and mountains.” However, the range of structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “I usually to go,” “i have also make walking habit,” and “the park is being polluted by plastic wrappers which is due to the visitors leaving behind.” These show problems with verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in lowercase “i” and spaces before commas. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine ideas using correctly formed clauses.
