Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I am writting this letter to inform you about the littering issue near my area. I live near maninagar and I usually go for my evening walk to kankariya. It is a public space so there are many people there at all times. This has impacted the road in kankariya and the lake as there is a lot of trash.

I go to kankariya everyday and now it is getting worst in terms of manangment. The pond and roads were so beautiful now are filled with garbage and smell. I want the authorities to look deeply into yhis matter. Goverment can install dustbin in every few meter as well as they should hire more people for cleaning the park in different shifts so the place remians clean through out the day. Moreover they can put signs and board to spread awarness about not throwing garbage in the park. More strcit checking during entry can cause more control if people dont bring food and tobacco spitting and trash can be controlled

I hope you will consider my suggestion and will take prompt action. I take a lot of pride to be a citizen of this country and I cannot see people destroying my home country. I appreciate your time for reading this letter and hope to see some changes soon.

Thank You,

zara

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that you walk in the evening near Kankariya, describe rubbish affecting the lake and roads, and propose bins, more cleaning staff, signs, and entry checks. The suggestions are relevant and give the newspaper reader a clear sense of possible action. However, the reason you enjoy walking is only implied by saying you go there regularly; explain what you value about the countryside or the setting. The description of litter is also quite general, and the final suggestion about food and tobacco is difficult to interpret. Develop these details more clearly and maintain a consistently formal letter style, including the requested salutation, to make the response more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure: the opening introduces the problem, the middle paragraph describes conditions and offers solutions, and the final paragraph closes with a request for action. This gives the reader an overall coherent progression. Some links between ideas are less clear, however. For example, “This has impacted the road” does not clearly identify what “This” refers to, and the long sentence beginning “More strict checking” combines several ideas without showing their relationships. The middle paragraph also contains many suggestions in one block. Use clearer paragraphing to separate the description from proposed measures, and use linking phrases selectively so each recommendation follows logically from the problem it addresses.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “littering issue,” “authorities,” “install dustbin,” and “spread awareness.” These choices make your main concerns and proposed actions understandable. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “writting,” “manangment,” “Goverment,” and “strcit,” while phrases such as “look deeply into this matter” and “more control” are imprecise or unnatural in this context. “The pond and roads were so beautiful now are filled with garbage and smell” also uses vocabulary in a way that makes the intended contrast unclear. Check spelling carefully and choose more precise collocations, such as “investigate the problem” and “increase enforcement,” to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “if people don’t bring food” and a recommendation using “so the place remains clean.” Most of the message can be understood, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “The pond and roads were so beautiful now are filled” lacks a clear grammatical connection between the past description and the present condition; “the pond and roads” also needs a more complete sentence structure. In “I go to Kankariya everyday and now it is getting worse,” the relationship between the clauses could be punctuated more clearly. Practise forming complete clauses, using consistent tense when contrasting past and present, and punctuating longer sentences so the reader can follow each point easily.
