Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to get your attention toward a matter in my local area.
recently, i have sarted walking and jogging early in the evening in the "king's park" near to may house in burlington city. i enjoy walking after my work because i feel relaxed and it also helpful in maintaing my fitness.
however, from last few days i have observed, many people are not using bins to throw the waste instead they put anywhere they sitting. i have observed different kinds of litter such as from food waste, paper cups and plastc bags.
as the problem is not that big, i would like you to put an artcle in your newspaper with details about awarness regarding responsibility towards environments and also mention about the fine they may have to pay if this will continue for a longer period of time.
i would be greteful if you could publish this article in your newspaper or suggest me any other ways. let me know if you required any further informtion regarding this.
i look forward to your prompt respons.
Yours faithfully,
m

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that walking and jogging in King’s Park helps you relax and maintain fitness, describe food waste, paper cups and plastic bags, and ask the newspaper to raise awareness and mention possible fines. The purpose and requested action are clear, and the formal opening and closing suit a letter to an editor. Some details are less fully developed: the litter description is brief, and the proposed response focuses mainly on a newspaper article rather than explaining how awareness or enforcement could reduce litter. The phrase “as the problem is not that big” also weakens the urgency of your complaint. To strengthen the response, clarify the impact on the park and give a more specific, developed suggestion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening purpose, a paragraph about your walks, a description of the litter, and a request to the newspaper. Linking words such as “however,” “because” and “also” help show relationships between ideas, and the closing is appropriate. The progression is generally easy to follow, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “from last few days I have observed” leads into a sentence whose wording makes it difficult to understand where people leave rubbish. The final request to “publish this article” is also slightly confusing because you are asking the newspaper to write or publish one. Use clearer references and connect the problem directly to the action you want the newspaper to take.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “food waste,” “paper cups,” “plastic bags,” “bins” and “fine.” Phrases such as “maintaining my fitness” and “responsibility towards environments” show an attempt to use more formal language. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word combinations are noticeable, including “sarted,” “plastc,” “artcle,” “awarness” and “prompt respons.” Some expressions, such as “get your attention toward a matter” and “put anywhere they sitting,” are not natural in this context and may slow the reader. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations, for example, “draw attention to an issue” and “leave litter on the ground.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including “I enjoy walking after my work because I feel relaxed” and the conditional idea about fines if the problem continues. The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence structure, verb forms, articles and agreement are frequent enough to affect fluency. Examples include “it also helpful” (missing “is”), “from last few days” (incorrect time expression), and “if this will continue” (the conditional clause needs a different verb form). Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at the starts of sentences. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then build longer sentences with correctly formed clauses and consistent punctuation.
