Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to provide you with an update regarding the conditions of trail at the countryside which is nearby my residence.
Every morning it's my schedule to go for walk at trail. That helps me to maintain my physical and mental health. Moreover, there is a river parallel to a path and occasionally I love to feed the ducks over there.
From past few weeks I have been noticing that there is a lot of trash laying on paths and it's very rare to see the patrolling on the site. I have been trying couple of times to pick the stuff but somehow every morning I am able to locate more trash.
So, I kindly request your team to have an attention on this concern and try to publish this on the newspaper. By that we can aware majority of the public as well as I would suggest that local law enforcement should be informed to get security services in that sector.
Best regards,
Husanpreet Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three bullet points: you explain that walking supports your physical and mental health, locate the route near your home and beside a river, describe litter on the paths, and propose publicity and security measures. The letter’s purpose is clear and the tone is generally appropriate. However, the litter description remains broad—“a lot of trash” and “more trash”—so readers do not learn what kinds of rubbish are being left or how the problem affects the area. Your proposed actions are relevant, but “have an attention on this concern” does not clearly specify what the newspaper or authorities should do. Give concrete examples of litter and make each recommendation more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible sequence: you introduce the reason for writing, describe your walks and the litter, then make a request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and links such as “Moreover,” “From past few weeks,” and “So” show how ideas relate. This gives the letter a coherent overall arrangement. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however: “From past few weeks” begins the problem paragraph abruptly, while the final paragraph combines a request to the newspaper, public awareness, and law enforcement without clearly separating the steps. Use clearer transitions and organise the proposed actions in a more deliberate order to make progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “countryside,” “maintain,” “patrolling,” and “local law enforcement.” These choices show some range beyond basic words, and the reader can understand your main points. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “conditions of trail,” “go for walk at trail,” “trash laying on paths,” and “have an attention on this concern.” “Stuff” is also vague for a formal letter describing litter. Choose more precise, natural collocations—for example, refer to the condition of the trail, rubbish lying along the paths, and ask the newspaper to draw attention to the issue. This would make your message sound clearer and more appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “That helps me to maintain my physical and mental health” and the sentence beginning “By that…”. Most ideas remain understandable, and the response has some control of sentence boundaries. Some grammatical errors are noticeable, particularly with articles, prepositions, and verb forms: “go for walk at trail” needs an article, and “there is a lot of trash laying on paths” has an awkward construction and missing article. “From past few weeks I have been noticing” also needs a more accurate time expression and punctuation after the opening phrase. Review article use and sentence patterns, and proofread for these errors while retaining your attempts at longer structures.
