Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inform you about the problem related to litter on the padestrial area.

I reside in the 151 Pusey blvd., North Brandford, which is 10 mintues walking distance from the rural area around the lake. I prefer to walk every morning across the bridge to the end of the Junction of York road. This routie not only sorround with a beautiful view of lake but also has fewer traffic, which the reason I prefer to walk there every day to refresh my mind.

Lately, I noticed that other padestrians through plastic bottles and bags on the bridge as well on the side benches near the lake. This problem is surging day by day, which makes the environment and the area pollutied.

I would request you If you raise this issue in the local newspaper it would be really benefical for the dwellers. Kindly include pointers related to significance of clean environment, this could assist in spreading awarness among people. Apart from this, provide some information realted to proper garbage disposal, so individuals take required steps to clean the vacanity and be a resposible citizens.

I would appreciate if you would look into this matter at your earlier convenience and print an article in your newspaper as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,

Nardeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that you walk near the lake each morning, describe bottles and bags left on the bridge and benches, and ask the newspaper to raise awareness and share disposal guidance. The purpose is clear from the opening, and the closing request is appropriate. The walking description is more developed than the proposed solutions, which remain general: for example, you ask for information about clean environments and proper disposal but do not suggest practical measures such as adding bins or signs. The response therefore covers the task, while some ideas are less fully explained. To strengthen it, give one or two specific actions and explain how they could reduce litter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: purpose, details of your walks, the litter problem, suggested action, and a closing request. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Lately,” “Apart from this,” and “I would appreciate” support the progression. Some connections are less smooth, however. The sentence beginning “I would request you If you raise this issue” combines a request and a conditional clause awkwardly, while “This problem is surging day by day, which makes…” leaves the relationship between the increase and its effects somewhat unclear. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise references to make the cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic and letter, including “rural area,” “plastic bottles,” “environment,” “garbage disposal,” and “responsible citizens.” These choices make the main message understandable, and phrases such as “spreading awareness” show an attempt to use more formal language. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, including “padestrial,” “sorround,” “pollutied,” and “vacanity.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “fewer traffic” and “significance of clean environment.” These errors reduce precision and sometimes make the reader pause. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, especially for describing places, pollution, and public action.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, such as “which is 10 mintues walking distance…” and “This routie not only… but also…”. The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but control is uneven, and several sentence patterns are faulty. For example, “which the reason I prefer” is missing a verb, and “I would request you If you raise this issue” does not form a clear grammatical request. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and sentence construction in “fewer traffic” and “so individuals take required steps.” Practise building accurate clauses with clear subjects and verbs, and use standard request forms such as “I would ask you to raise this issue.”
