Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to draw your attention to the arising issue in surrounding areas. The problem of litter is growing gradually day by day.
Walking everyday in the farmland boosts my stamina, and I feel rejuvenated and fresh afterwards. Countryside often provides scenic views of nearby forests and breathtaking sunset views every evening.
Apparently, pathways are full of trash and recycle in recent days. It seems like pedastrians deliberately do this to avoid a long procedure of trashing garbage. It might get worse if not taken care properly, and people get sick easily because of this it.
I would appreciate it if you could write an article about this issue that can raise awareness among individuals and limits them of doing this. Eventually, it would be beneficial for locals, and the illness can be prevented.
I look forward to your prompt response. I hope the existing situation gets better in the future.
Yours faithfully,
Rutvi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three points: you explain that walking in farmland improves your stamina and helps you feel refreshed, describe litter on the pathways, and ask the newspaper to publish an awareness-raising article. These details keep the response relevant and give the reader a clear sense of your concern. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. The location is described generally rather than identifying a particular countryside area, and the litter description is vague: “trash and recycle” does not specify what items you have seen. The proposed response also focuses mainly on an article; adding practical measures, such as more bins or signs, would make your suggestions more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement, moving from the issue to your enjoyment of walking, then the litter and a proposed response. Separate paragraphs help distinguish these points, and the opening and closing are appropriate for a formal letter. Some connections between ideas are less clear, however. In “It might get worse if not taken care properly, and people get sick easily because of this it,” the relationship between the litter, worsening conditions and illness is difficult to follow. “Apparently” also does not clearly signal how the litter observation relates to the preceding paragraph. Use more precise links and ensure pronouns such as “this” refer unmistakably to a specific problem or consequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for the topic, including “draw your attention,” “rejuvenated,” “scenic views,” and “raise awareness.” These choices help convey both your enjoyment of walking and your concern. Some word choices and combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “trash and recycle” does not clearly name the litter, while “trashing garbage” is an awkward way to describe disposing of waste. There are also spelling errors in “pedastrians” and “everyday” when used to mean “every day.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and specific nouns for the rubbish you have observed; this will make the letter clearer without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both straightforward sentences and more complex forms, such as “I would appreciate it if you could write an article…” and the conditional “It might get worse if…”. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. In “if not taken care properly,” the passive construction needs “if it is not taken care of properly.” The sentence ending “because of this it” has an unclear and faulty structure; for example, you could write, “This could make people ill.” In “Walking everyday in the farmland boosts my stamina,” the opening phrase would be clearer as “Walking in the farmland every day.” Check sentence structure and pronoun use, especially in longer sentences.
