Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my concern about the increase amount of litter being left in the countryside near my town.
I regularly enjoy walking along with the peaceful trails near the local forest beside river. These walks allow me to relax, enjoy the fresh air and escape from the stress of daily life. Moreover, the beautiful scenery and variety of wildlife make the countryside an ideal place to spend weekends.
Unfortunately, I have recently noticed a significant increase in litter along with the paths. Plastic bottles, food wrappers, empty cans and disposable cups are scattered across the grass and near the riverbanks. In addition to making the area unattractive, this rubbish can harm wildlife and pollute the environment.
I believe several measures could help address this problem. The local council should install more rubbish bins at the popular walking spots and arrange regular cleaning activities. Furthermore, notices encouraging visitors to take their rubbish home could raise awareness. Fines should also be imposed on those who deliberately litter.
I hope the local authorities will take prompt action to improve action to preserve our beautiful countryside for everyone to enjoy.
Yours sincerely,
Mohammed Yasir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three required points clearly and develops them well. You explain why you enjoy walking—relaxation, fresh air, and wildlife—and locate the walks on trails near the local forest and river. The examples of bottles, wrappers, cans, and cups make the litter problem specific, while the suggestions of bins, clean-ups, notices, and fines are relevant and practical. Your concern is clear from the opening and maintained throughout. To make the response even more complete, you could specify which local authority should coordinate the proposed measures and briefly explain how visitors might be encouraged to use the bins. Overall, the content is well focused and supported, with only minor opportunities for further precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: purpose, enjoyment of the walks, description of the litter, proposed solutions, and a closing appeal. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Unfortunately,” and “Furthermore” help readers follow the shift between ideas. The list of litter types is also placed effectively within the problem paragraph. Some connections are slightly less smooth because “In addition to” and “Furthermore” introduce points in a fairly formulaic way, and the final sentence repeats the idea of action and preservation. For a more polished progression, vary how you connect supporting details and make the closing a concise consequence or request. The overall organisation remains clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You use a good range of topic-appropriate vocabulary, including “scattered,” “riverbanks,” “wildlife,” “raise awareness,” and “imposed.” These choices make the environmental concern clear, and the specific litter items add precision. There are occasional word-choice and collocation problems that keep the vocabulary from sounding consistently natural: “increase amount” would be better expressed as “increasing amount,” and “walking along with the peaceful trails” is awkward. “Improve action” in the closing is also unclear and appears to repeat the idea of taking action. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding more advanced words; for example, describe litter as “accumulating along the paths” and ask authorities to “take prompt action to protect” the countryside.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5
The response shows a useful variety of sentence forms, including complex sentences with “which” and “while,” and the conditional suggestion “notices … could raise awareness.” Many sentences are accurate and punctuation is generally controlled, so the message remains clear. A few grammatical slips persist. In “near the local forest beside river,” the singular count noun needs an article (“beside the river”); “walking along with the peaceful trails” has an incorrect prepositional construction; and “I hope the local authorities will take prompt action to improve action” contains a faulty repeated structure. Review articles and prepositions, and check the final sentence for a complete, grammatically coherent expression. More consistent accuracy in these details would strengthen an otherwise well-controlled range.
