Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Mada,

I am writing this letter to highlight an issue regarding the litter left in the area where I enjoy to walk during the evenings.

After my office hours I usually go for walk in the in my neighbourhood to unwind myself from the hectic routine, and release some stress from daily repeative routine. I enjoy walking the my countryside because I can see the kids playing around and breath fresh air. However recently I noticed that there is more and more litter is growing around the area where I go for the walk. Espcially in the areas where the kids are playing. Packing of junk foods, boxes and wrapping for toys are found on the walkways.

I would like to suggest to increase the number of trash bins in our countryside, espically around the areas where kids are coming to play. And also place some notice in the public area to spread the awarness to discard the litter properly. Also some awarnees campaign can be launched via tv and radio commercials.

I think these measures would help us to keep the environment more cleaner.

Yours faithfully,

Jinn

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you explain that walking after work helps you unwind and enjoy fresh air, describe litter such as food packaging and toy wrappers, and propose more bins, notices, and awareness campaigns. The purpose of writing to the newspaper is clear, and the suggestions are relevant. However, some points are less fully developed than others. For example, you mention seeing children playing but do not explain why this makes the litter especially concerning, and the proposed campaigns are not described in much detail. Add a little explanation of the effects on walkers, children, or the countryside, and make one or two suggestions more specific, such as who should install or maintain the bins. This would make the response more fully developed and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening that states the concern, a paragraph about your walks and the litter, a paragraph of proposed solutions, and a closing sentence. This makes the main message easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “However,” “And also,” and “I think.” At times, though, the connections feel mechanical or unclear. The second paragraph combines your reasons for walking with the litter description, while the suggestions are presented as a sequence of short points beginning with “And also” and “Also.” Group related information more deliberately and use clearer transitions to show how each suggestion addresses the problem. A more conventional letter closing would also help the ending feel complete.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “unwind,” “hectic routine,” “fresh air,” “walkways,” and “trash bins.” These choices show some range beyond basic words, and the reader can understand the litter problem and your proposed actions. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “repeative,” “Espcially,” “Packing of junk foods,” and “awarness.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “release some stress from daily repeative routine” and “keep the environment more cleaner.” Choose more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, “food packaging” is clearer than “Packing of junk foods,” and “raise public awareness” is a more idiomatic way to describe the campaign.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “After my office hours” and a contrast introduced by “However.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in basic patterns and in longer sentences. Examples include “I enjoy to walk,” “go for walk,” “there is more and more litter is growing,” and “I enjoy walking the my countryside.” The final sentence also has an incorrect comparative construction: “more cleaner.” Work on verb patterns, articles, and sentence structure; for example, use “enjoy walking,” “go for a walk,” and “the amount of litter is increasing.” Breaking the longer sentence about your routine into two accurate sentences would also improve control while retaining variety.
