Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter to address a growing unhealthy trend that is happening in the countryside near my residence. Nowadays people are dumping more and more litter on the walk ways in the countryside which can cause a negative impact on the health of the pedestrians.
Generally, I go for a evening stroll to the countryside after my habitual stressful work day. I usually go there for a walk with my family and we enjoy the nature togethere. Infact it is the best thing that happens to me throughout the day and I love our famliy's little walk there because brings us closer as we talk about each others feelings which makes our bond stronger as a family.
However, yesterday night when we were on the walk, we saw that there was massive amount of litter scattered alongside the river that is situated in the countryside. There were all kind of household garbage such as used tissues, food wrappers and even dippers and industrial waste as well.
I would like to suggest that local authority should take strict action regarding this problem by issuing fines, posting signs and by hosting awarness campaings. For example, local authorities can host a cleanup program on weekends where at least one member from a household should be present help in the community cleanup.
At the end, I would like to inform people that nature is our mother which provides us fresh air to breathe and water to drink. So, we should all be together and conserve it so our future generation can also enjoy the nature at its purest form. I will be looking forward to the response from the locials and the authority regarding this issue.
Yours,
XYZ

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three points clearly: you explain that you walk in the countryside with your family after work, describe rubbish by the river, and propose fines, signs, awareness campaigns, and weekend clean-ups. The personal detail about walking helping your family bond gives the letter a clear purpose, while the examples of wrappers, tissues, nappies and industrial waste make the problem concrete. Your suggestions are relevant, although the clean-up proposal could be developed further by explaining how it would be organised or publicised. The closing appeal to protect nature reinforces your message, but some claims about the effects of litter on pedestrians’ health are broad rather than specifically supported. Overall, the task is addressed effectively, with a little room to make some supporting details more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce the concern, describe your walks, report what you saw, suggest action, and finish with an appeal. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “However” and “For example” guide the reader through the account. The sequence is easy to follow, though some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “I” and the explicit closing phrases “At the end” and “I will be looking forward.” The long sentence about how the family walk strengthens your bond also contains several connected ideas that would be clearer if divided. More varied referencing and smoother links between the problem and proposed solutions would make the organisation feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “scattered,” “industrial waste,” “issuing fines,” and “community cleanup.” These choices help communicate both the problem and possible responses. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations: “unhealthy trend” is less suitable than “growing problem,” “walk ways” is not the usual form, and “dippers” appears to mean “nappies.” Spelling errors such as “togethere,” “awarness,” “campaings,” “famliy,” and “locials” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional expressions and proofread spelling, especially in key descriptions. This would make your vocabulary more controlled while retaining the useful topic-specific terms you already use.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a relative clause in “which can cause a negative impact” and a time clause beginning “when we were on the walk.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “I go for a evening stroll” needs the article “an,” and “because brings us closer” is missing a subject (“because it brings us closer”). In “should be present help,” the infinitive marker “to” is needed before “help.” There are also issues with plural and determiner forms, as in “there was massive amount” and “all kind of household garbage.” Review articles, agreement, and clause construction, and break up the longest sentences to improve control.
