Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Madam,
I am writing this letter to raise a concern regarding the litter left by community people near countryside near my home.
I regularly go for a morning and evening walk in the countryside. It is a part of my daily routine and I enjoy the fresh air, birds chirping sound, and sitting for a while near the lake. It helps me in relaxing my mind, creates positive environment around me. It also benefits me in my overall mental as well as physical health.
However, in recent days I am noticing that local people are throwing litter near the lake area as well as on the way. There are small paper pieces, empty snack packs, plastic bottles, and other domestic garbage thrown alongside which is causing bad smell and air pollution in the area. While people visit there for freshness and stressed free environment, this has made difficult to experience that.
To aware people regarding maintaining the cleanliness in the surrounding, I would suggest you to publish an article stating that this area is for having a peaceful quality time alone or with your loved ones rather than throwing your rubbish and, can introduce penalty is someone do it in future, This will help us to keep the area tidy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you explain that you walk morning and evening, enjoy the fresh air, birds and lake, describe specific rubbish, and propose a newspaper article and penalties. The letter’s purpose is clear throughout, and the examples make the problem easy to understand. Your suggestions are relevant, although the proposed article’s message is somewhat general, and the penalty idea would be stronger if you explained who might enforce it or how walkers would be informed. The opening and closing could also be made more conventionally letter-like. Overall, the task is covered with relevant supporting detail, but a little more development of the proposed solutions would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall progression: purpose, enjoyment of the walks, the litter problem, and possible action. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and transitions such as “However” and “To aware people” signal the shift to the problem and suggestions. This gives the letter a coherent structure. Some links are less smooth, however: the final paragraph combines the article’s proposed message, a penalty, and the expected result in one long sentence, while “this” in “this has made difficult to experience that” has an unclear reference. The progression is generally logical, but more controlled sentence boundaries and clearer referencing would make cohesion more natural and flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “litter,” “plastic bottles,” “domestic garbage,” “air pollution,” and “penalty,” so the reader can understand the issue and your suggestions. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “positive environment” and “peaceful quality time.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, though: “community people,” “birds chirping sound,” “stressed free environment,” and “To aware people” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “Rubbish” and “litter” are appropriate, but “domestic garbage” is less fitting for discarded items on a walking route. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “local residents,” “the sound of birdsong,” and “raise awareness.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “It helps me in relaxing my mind” and the sentence beginning “While people visit there…”. The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in sentence construction and punctuation are noticeable. For example, “It helps me in relaxing my mind, creates positive environment around me” joins two verb patterns awkwardly and omits an article; “this has made difficult to experience that” lacks a clear grammatical object; and the final sentence contains a comma splice and an incorrectly formed conditional (“is someone do it”). Tense control also needs attention in “in recent days I am noticing.” Practise building complete clauses and checking articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
