Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction for noticing immense litter left by other walkers in the countryside near my home.
I am an enthusiast who enjoy walking on a regular basis to maintain my fitness level and every morning I walk around East side of Sonoma park in Mississauga for about 40minutes between 06:00 - 08:00 am. I prefer this location for walk because its peaceful and less noisy compared to other parks nearby my house.
Unfortunately, I have noticed lately that a huge number of walkers are littering coffee cups on my walks which is highly inappropriate for individuals who likes to protect the environment. Even though there are a few recycle bins around the park where they can dump the wastage. It seems they do not care of hygiene which is so annoying to see.
I would like to suggest you that you document this unacceptable behaviour by local public and posts it in newspaper for awareness. So, the local council could take strict actions against such people by enforcing penalties for littering in the park and place more recycle bins and signs to dump their wastage in recycle bins.
I am very much thankful for the consideration. Looking forward to see the article in the newspaper promptly.
Yours faithfully,
Altaf

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and maintain a clear, appropriate purpose: you explain that walking supports your fitness, identify East side of Sonoma Park, describe discarded coffee cups, and propose publicity, penalties, bins and signs. These relevant details meet the task well. The explanation of why you enjoy the walk is reasonably clear, but the litter description is narrow, and the proposed newspaper coverage and council action would benefit from more explanation—for example, how signs or penalties might change walkers’ behaviour. The letter’s tone is generally suitable, although “Dear Sir” does not follow the supplied opening, “Dear Sir or Madam,” and the closing thanks the editor without a specific request. More fully developed details and closer attention to the requested format would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with the concern, gives background about your walks, describes the litter, and ends with proposed solutions. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Unfortunately” and “So” signal relationships between ideas. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Even though there are a few recycle bins…” is left as a fragment, while the following sentence does not clearly explain the contrast. The final paragraph also combines several suggestions in a long sequence, making the relationship between newspaper awareness and council action somewhat mechanical. Use complete sentences and clearer transitions to show how each proposed measure follows from the problem.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “dissatisfaction,” “peaceful,” “inappropriate,” “enforcing penalties,” and “awareness.” These choices communicate your concern and proposed remedies, and the meaning remains clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “dissatisfaction for noticing,” “littering coffee cups,” “dump the wastage,” and “protect the environment” in this context. “Recycle bins” is also less natural than the standard term “recycling bins.” Repetition of “walkers,” “bins,” and “wastage” limits flexibility. Aim for more precise phrases such as “discarding coffee cups,” “dispose of their rubbish,” and “environmentally responsible,” while checking that each expression fits naturally in the sentence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “I prefer this location…” and the conditional idea about what the local council could do. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “an enthusiast who enjoy” should use a verb agreeing with “who,” and “individuals who likes” has the same agreement problem. “Even though there are a few recycle bins…” is an incomplete dependent clause, while “posts it” does not agree with the subject “you.” There are also awkward constructions such as “Looking forward to see.” Review subject–verb agreement and ensure subordinate clauses are attached to complete sentences; this will improve accuracy while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
