Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I am going to write this letter to discuss a concern about a liter which is left on the walk way in my village from last week.
Actually, I always go for a walk in the early morning with my sister, because I want to reduce my over weight and get a fresh air. Doctor gave me advise to go for a walk to stay fit and healthy.
To be honest, I am seeing this garbage daily and no one is coming to clean it. There are plastic polithin and sewerage liter on the walkside, due to this issue people are facing health related problems like fever due to mosquitoes or other insects.
I want to give a suggestion for handling this concern is that local people should make clean environment and throw garbage in bins. Everyone should take iniciatives to do it.
I am looking forward to hear from you.
Yours faithfully,
Raman Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that you walk with your sister to stay fit and enjoy fresh air, describe plastic and other waste along the path, and suggest that residents use bins and take responsibility. These details keep the response relevant and give the reader a clear sense of the concern. However, some points are only partly developed. The location is described generally as the village walkway, and the proposed action is limited to asking people to use bins; you could also suggest practical measures such as adding more bins or arranging regular clean-ups. The health effects are mentioned, but the link between the litter and these problems could be explained more clearly. Overall, the purpose is clear, though the ideas are not equally developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening that introduces the concern, separate paragraphs about your walks and the litter, a paragraph with a suggestion, and an appropriate closing. This makes the main points easy to locate. You also use basic links such as “because,” “due to this issue,” and “I want to give a suggestion” to connect ideas. At times, however, the progression feels mechanical, and some links do not express the relationship smoothly—for example, the sentence about health problems follows the litter description without clearly explaining how the waste causes them. The opening also repeats the purpose already implied by writing to the newspaper. More natural transitions and clearer links between cause, effect, and proposed action would make the organisation more fluent.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main concern, including “garbage,” “plastic,” “bins,” “health related problems,” and “mosquitoes.” The reader can understand the general message, but the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision. For example, “liter” is used for litter, “walk way” and “walkside” are awkward forms, and “plastic polithin” is unclear. Phrases such as “make clean environment” and “take iniciatives” also do not express your meaning naturally. Aim to learn common combinations for this topic, such as “litter along the footpath,” “dispose of waste,” and “organise a clean-up.” More accurate spelling and more precise vocabulary would make the letter clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including a reason clause with “because” and a sentence beginning “due to this issue.” The main message remains understandable, but there are some grammatical errors in sentence construction, articles, and verb patterns. For instance, “I want to give a suggestion for handling this concern is that…” combines two structures and needs to be recast, while “I am looking forward to hear from you” requires a different verb form after “looking forward to.” In “Doctor gave me advise,” the sentence also needs a determiner before “doctor” and a grammatically suitable noun form. Practise building accurate complex sentences and checking articles and verb patterns; this will improve control while preserving your clear basic meaning.
