Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to raise a concern about litter problem in the countryside near my home.
There is a small field near my society, covered with sunflowers and some other crops. It has a few channels between the bushes where we enjoy walking and spend our valuable time, It feels so calming walking by them.
However, I have noticed that due to increased people interest for the area, the beauty of the field is getting harmed. People used to visit the area with children, enjoy their quick snacks and throw the garbage around. Due to this reason the beauty of the field is becoming dull.
I would like to request you to please place enough dustbins around the field, so that people can throw their garbage into it. Moreover, I believe sign board with proper written instructions can also help in this matter.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind Regards,
Dua

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three points: you explain that you enjoy walking among the sunflowers and crops, describe visitors leaving snack-related rubbish, and suggest bins and instructional signs. The concern is clear and relevant to a local newspaper. However, some details are less fully developed than others. The description of the litter remains general—“throw the garbage around”—so naming examples such as wrappers or bottles would make the problem more vivid. The proposed signs are also not specified: explain what message they should give or how they might discourage littering. A more suitable opening, “Dear Sir or Madam,” would also follow the task’s requested format.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The ideas are arranged in a sensible sequence: you introduce the concern, describe the walking area, explain the litter problem, and offer solutions before closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “However” and “Moreover” guide the reader. Some cohesion is less controlled, though. The sentence beginning “People used to visit the area” does not clearly show whether this describes a past habit or what visitors currently do, which weakens the progression of the explanation. The long sentence about the field and walking also joins separate ideas with a comma. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise references to make the connections feel less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “countryside,” “sunflowers,” “crops,” “dustbins,” and “instructions.” There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “the beauty of the field is becoming dull.” However, several word choices and combinations are unnatural or imprecise, including “increased people interest,” “valuable time,” and “quick snacks.” “Garbage” is understandable, but “litter” would be more natural and consistent in this context. These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim for natural collocations and specific examples of rubbish rather than repeating general terms such as “garbage.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple and more developed sentence forms, for example, “I am writing to raise a concern…” and the sentence explaining that bins would give people somewhere to dispose of rubbish. The main message remains clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors are present. In “There is a small field near my society, covered with sunflowers,” the modifier is awkwardly attached; “a small field near my home that is covered…” would be clearer. The comma splice in “spend our valuable time, It feels…” should be corrected by using a full stop or conjunction. Articles and agreement also need attention in “about litter problem” and “sign board.” Review sentence boundaries and article use while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
