Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to draw attention of an important metter.
I love morning walks , and i enjoy regular morning walk in a Park called Jheel Park , which is situated in the heart of my city karachi near my home.It helps me refreshing and a good head start of my day.
This park is one of the biggest park in the city and it contain a big beautiful lake which is at the heart of the park. The park named after the lake,"Jheel" in Urdu means lake.we get a really beautiful view of sunset from the lake. Not just that, this natural beauty contains a variety of plans and trees which was planted and most of them are from different parts of the world. Most of the time visitors from other countries used to visit this plac ejust to see the beauy of this amazing master peice and a gift from nature.
In recent days , with the increase number of visitors visiting this park .I witness the litters around the lake and to the park which was not seen before and that amazed me and force me to bring this metter to your knowledge. In my opinion it is because of many reasons, one of these reason is there is no check and balance for anybody to come with whatever they want .The food and drinks would not be allowed because that is the main reson and there is not signboards or garbage box installed around the park that remind people not to get food and if they do please throw litters to the garbage box.
I think w eshould take some major steps as soon as we can,we should start of imposing policy that will allow this park to be maintained .we should have a policy to penalize a person who will not abide the rules the fund will be sued to maintain the park.
We should hire a staff who would observe people and guide them about the policies .Alternatively we should install garbage boxes and place flashcards to the visitors so that they will be reminded what to do and what not to do.It will definatly help the park to be in their natural position and will serve people likeme, and give inspiration to walk everyday.
Kind Regards,
Shariq

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that you enjoy morning walks in Jheel Park, describe litter around the lake and park, and propose measures such as bins, staff supervision and penalties. The setting and its lake, views and trees give the letter useful context. Your suggestions are relevant, but some are not fully developed or are unclear: for example, banning food and drinks is presented as a main solution without explaining how this would be enforced, while the proposed policy and use of funds need clearer detail. The opening says you are raising an important matter, but a more direct statement of the litter problem would establish your purpose sooner. Overall, the task is covered, with some ideas developed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable progression: it introduces your walks, describes the park, explains the litter problem, and then offers solutions. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and links such as “In recent days” and “Alternatively” guide the reader. However, the long description of the park delays the central complaint, and some connections between ideas are awkward or unclear. For instance, the sentence beginning “In my opinion it is because of many reasons” moves from possible causes to restrictions and missing facilities without clearly distinguishing them. The final two solution paragraphs also repeat the need for policies and reminders. A more focused sequence—purpose, specific litter, then prioritised actions—would make the progression clearer and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “natural beauty,” “variety,” “penalize,” “maintained” and “reminded.” These choices help convey the park’s appeal and possible responses to littering. However, noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors sometimes make the wording difficult to follow, as in “metter,” “plans” for plants, “master peice,” and “the fund will be sued.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “draw attention of an important matter” and “flashcards to the visitors.” These issues keep the vocabulary from being consistently clear and appropriately controlled. Proofreading spelling and choosing more natural combinations—such as “raise awareness of” and “install noticeboards”—would improve precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including relative clauses such as “which is situated in the heart of my city” and “which will not abide the rules.” This shows some range, but control is uneven, and errors occur in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms. For example, “This park is one of the biggest park” has a plural agreement problem, while “it contain” and “which was planted” do not match their subjects. Several sentences run together, particularly the description beginning “The park named after the lake,” making relationships between clauses harder to follow. There are also incomplete or awkward constructions, such as “In recent days, with the increase number…” More accurate clause construction and careful checking of subject–verb agreement would strengthen clarity.
