Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing to complaint about the litter thrown by walkers near the footpaths. I really enjoy walking close to the Plagium Park situated in gravenhurst. This is because I am really impressed by the beauty of this place. There are many trees and flowers planted which give an essence of piece. Moreover, sometimes I really feel delightful seeing children in the park and sitting with other people.
However, I disppointed last saturday after seeing a litter near footpath. Someone through used cardboared over there which should not be acceptable. Many children come over there to play games in the park. If they see it, they would do the same things.
Therefore, I would like to suggest some solutions to resolve this problem. Firstly, I would like to recommend that the government should impose strict rules againt throwing garbage on the footpath. Secondly, they can install cameras or sensors so that they may come to know about who do it. They can impose a huge amount of fine againt it. If these are taken strictly, the problem can be resolved to a large extent.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and hope that this matter will be resolved promptly.
Yours Sincerely,
Jasdeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that you enjoy Plagium Park for its trees, flowers and social atmosphere, describe discarded cardboard, and propose rules, monitoring and fines. The purpose is clear from the opening, and the closing is appropriate. The description of the litter is quite narrow, however, and the proposed measures are presented briefly rather than explained—for example, you could say where bins should be placed or how walkers would be informed about the rules. The possible effect on children is relevant, but the claim that they would copy the behaviour could be developed more carefully. The response covers the task well overall, with some ideas needing fuller support and detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from the reason for writing, to your enjoyment of the park, the litter problem, and possible solutions. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and signposts such as “However,” “Therefore,” “Firstly” and “Secondly” make the stages easy to follow. The final sentence also provides a suitable close. Some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “I would like to” when introducing suggestions. A few references could be clearer: “If they see it” could specify that “it” means the discarded cardboard, while “these” in “If these are taken strictly” does not clearly identify the rules or penalties. More varied transitions and precise referencing would make the flow smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “footpaths,” “impose strict rules,” “install cameras” and “a huge amount of fine.” There is some variety in describing the park and the proposed response, but several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision. For example, “an essence of piece” appears to mean “a sense of peace,” and “through used cardboared” is unclear because the intended verb is “threw” and “cardboard” is misspelled. “A litter” is also not the natural expression for rubbish in this context. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but more accurate everyday collocations and careful proofreading would strengthen the vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause (“This is because…”) and a conditional sentence (“If they see it, they would do the same things”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “I am writing to complaint” needs the infinitive “to complain,” and “I disappointed last Saturday” needs a form of “be,” such as “I was disappointed.” The conditional construction would be more consistent as “If they see it, they may do the same.” There are also issues with articles and agreement in “Someone through used cardboared over there” and “who do it.” Review verb forms, conditional patterns and sentence construction; greater control would make your varied structures more effective.
