Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inform you that there is huge garbage left by others day by day where I am working near my home.

I am walking in the park which is situated near my home and its only 15 mintues awy from my home by feet. There is a big walkig path in the park where I usually go for walking. Moreover, there is numerous plants and trees which provide good air and whenever I go there I feel fresh and peace of mind because of the greenery.

I have seen litter from last few days. People throw their napkins, plastic bolltes and food rappers on the path which create difficulties for other individuals.

I would appreciate it if some dustbins and camers could be installed on this path, so, people can throw there rubbish in the dustbins rather than on walking trails.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my request. If you need any further information regarding this metter please let me know. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three points: you explain that you walk in a nearby park for its path and greenery, identify litter such as napkins, plastic bottles and food wrappers, and recommend bins and cameras. The purpose is clear from the opening, and the closing is appropriate for a formal letter. Some details are less fully developed: the reason for enjoying the walks is stated, but could be made more specific, and the proposed measures would be stronger with a brief explanation of how they might reduce litter. Also clarify the opening: “where I am working near my home” does not clearly describe the walking location. Overall, the response is relevant, though some ideas need clearer development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter is arranged in a sensible sequence, with separate paragraphs for the location and enjoyment, the litter, and possible solutions. This makes the main points easy to locate. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “because,” and the final request and sign-off give the letter a clear ending. Some connections are less smooth or precise: “I have seen litter from last few days” begins the problem paragraph abruptly, while “so, people can throw” uses punctuation that interrupts the relationship between the suggestion and its purpose. The reference to “this path” is understandable, but clearer links between the park, path and proposed bins would improve cohesion. The overall organisation is effective, though some linking remains mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “greenery,” “dustbins,” “rubbish” and “walking trails.” The examples of litter are also specific and relevant. However, several spelling and word-choice errors make the language less precise, including “mintues,” “awy,” “bolltes,” “rappers” and “metter.” Some phrases are unnatural or unclear, such as “huge garbage left by others day by day” and “good air and…peace of mind.” Choose more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, “a large amount of litter is being left” is clearer than “huge garbage.” The vocabulary is adequate for the letter’s purpose, but accuracy and more precise phrasing are needed for greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “whenever I go there I feel fresh” and “I would appreciate it if…could be installed.” These help convey reasons and make a polite request. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “there is numerous plants and trees,” the verb does not agree with the plural subject; “there are” is needed. “It’s only 15 minutes away from my home by feet” also has problems with the sentence pattern and preposition, and “which create difficulties” needs agreement with the intended subject. Punctuation is occasionally inaccurate, as in “so, people.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but more consistent control of agreement, articles and sentence patterns would strengthen the writing.
