Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to inform you about the trash I have been noticing in our area near the temple which is left out by other individual walkers.
Firstly, I not only enjoy there because of the nice scenery but also the peace available around the temple in the countryside. Moreover, the enviornment there is secure especially for the families which allows the people to enjoy time with the family members.
I have noticed the litter of different kind such as food plastic, water bottles and papers. As there are very a few of garage bins, people throws the waste on the walkways.
I would appreciate that if you can publish an awareness campaign to stop waste.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address all three points: you explain that you enjoy the scenery and peace near the temple, list food packaging, bottles and paper, and propose an awareness campaign. However, the ideas are brief and not fully developed; for example, you do not explain how the campaign would work or give other practical measures, such as adding bins or signs. The description of where you walk is also limited to the area near the temple. The response is 30 words below the required minimum, which restricts how fully you can develop the letter. To strengthen it, add specific details about your route and the litter, then explain who should take action and how your suggestions could reduce the problem.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening purpose, a paragraph about the countryside, a description of the litter, and a final suggestion. This makes the main points easy to locate, and transitions such as “Firstly” and “Moreover” help connect ideas. The progression is not always smooth, however: “Firstly” introduces reasons for walking, while “Moreover” adds another reason without clearly distinguishing the ideas. The final request is also very brief, so the letter ends abruptly. Use paragraphing to separate each task point and add a linking sentence that leads from the litter problem to your proposed action. This would make the organisation feel more deliberate and the cohesion less dependent on basic sequencing words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main topic, including “scenery,” “peace,” “walkways,” and examples of rubbish such as “water bottles” and “papers.” There are also attempts to use more formal language, such as “I would appreciate.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, including “food plastic,” “garage bins,” and “publish an awareness campaign.” “Trash” and “waste” are repeated, and “individual walkers” is an awkward way to refer to other people walking in the area. These choices make the wording less precise, although the intended meaning is generally understandable. Build a more accurate range around litter and local action, and check spelling, including “environment.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including the paired structure “not only … but also” and a reason clause beginning “As.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in sentence construction and agreement are noticeable. For example, “I not only enjoy there” is missing a suitable verb pattern, and “people throws” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. In “there are very a few,” the quantifier structure is faulty, while “I would appreciate that if you can” combines patterns incorrectly. Some sentences also contain several ideas without clear grammatical control. Practise accurate complex patterns and check agreement and clause structure; for instance, use “people throw” and “I would appreciate it if you could…”
