Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my concern about cleanliess in the countryside area.

Everyday, I go to the public park near my house for a morning walk. This park is located in the countryside area. I enjoy walking there because the atmosphere of the park is too quiet. Morover, morning walk always makes me relax and fresh for the entire day.

Lately, I have felt dissatisfaction with the park maintainance. The cleanliness standards has been declined in the countryside area. People are littering anywhere in public places. I saw garbage on the park street such as empty food containers, coffee cups and plastic bottles. This can lead to several negative consequences.

However, authority should take appropriate action against this issue. In my opinion, citizens need awareness about cleanliness and littering. Similarly, government needs to make sure that garbage cans in the countryside are changed regularly so that we local public avoid littering anywhere.

Yours faithfully,

Neel Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points and makes its purpose clear: you explain that you walk in the nearby countryside park, describe discarded food containers, coffee cups and plastic bottles, and propose public awareness and regularly emptied bins. These details make the response relevant and complete overall. The reasons for enjoying the walk are less fully developed: “the atmosphere ... is too quiet” and feeling “relax and fresh” identify benefits, but could be explained more naturally and specifically. The proposed actions are also somewhat general; for example, you could say who should organise an awareness campaign or how the newspaper might help draw attention to the issue. More development of these points would make the letter more fully persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: purpose, enjoyment of the walks, the litter problem, and possible solutions. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “Similarly” show an attempt to connect ideas. The progression is clear overall, though some links feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely. “However” introduces a solution rather than a contrast, while “Similarly” does not clearly connect the two recommendations. The reference to “the park” is understandable, but the repeated use of “countryside area” makes the description less smooth. Use fewer, more precise transitions and connect each recommendation directly to the problem it addresses.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cleanliness,” “littering,” “negative consequences,” and specific examples of rubbish. These choices communicate the issue clearly, and the list of containers, cups and bottles gives useful detail. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice or collocation errors that limit precision, such as “cleanliess,” “Morover,” “maintainance,” and “the atmosphere ... is too quiet.” “Felt dissatisfaction with the park maintenance” is also an awkward way to express your concern. Aim for natural combinations such as “the park is poorly maintained” and “the peaceful atmosphere helps me relax.” More accurate spelling and collocation would make the vocabulary more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, such as “I enjoy walking there because...” and the purpose clause “so that...”. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “The cleanliness standards has been declined” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an incorrect verb construction; “morning walk always makes me relax” needs an article, and “makes me relax and fresh” does not maintain a parallel grammatical pattern. The final sentence also has an unclear construction around “we local public avoid littering.” Practise agreement, articles, and verb patterns, and check that clauses are complete and logically connected. Greater control of these forms would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
