Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I would like to express my concern regarding the waste thrown by the walkers during exercise on the dedicated path. As I reside near the countryside where numerous park are faciliated with numerous services consist of exercise equipment, special walk-way and comfort sitting area in the centre of the park. Since, I am fitness enthusiast, I love to do exercise in the early morning which help me to stay healthy.

Over the past few months, I have noticed, walkers often leave their rubbish in the park where they bring things consist of food packets, water bottle and plastic bag. Sometimes, schools sometimes organise picnics and leave waste behind as result this lead to spread the waste in the whole park.

So, I believe this problem can be solved in several ways. So the solution can be installing the dustbins at 100m distance this will help to reduce the waste thrown in the park. In addition to this, there should be workers for collecting the waste from the bins every week and appoint some workers for cleaning the park.

Yours faithfully,

Anuj Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points: you explain that you enjoy exercising in the countryside park, describe food packets, bottles and plastic bags, and propose bins and regular cleaning. The purpose is clear and the formal letter format is appropriate. The first point is less fully developed: the task asks where you walk, but “near the countryside” and “in the centre of the park” do not identify a particular place clearly. The litter and solutions are relevant, though the picnic example and the proposed weekly collection could be explained more precisely. To strengthen the response, name the walking area more specifically and briefly explain how your suggestions would encourage visitors to dispose of rubbish responsibly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: concern and personal context come first, followed by examples of litter and then proposed solutions. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and expressions such as “Over the past few months” and “In addition to this” signal relationships between ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. “So” is repeated at the start of consecutive sentences, and “Sometimes, schools sometimes” repeats the same marker. The long opening sentence also combines several details without a clear progression, while “this will help” has an unclear reference after the suggestion about bins. Use a wider range of linking expressions and make each sentence’s connection to the previous idea explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “concern,” “rubbish,” “food packets,” “plastic bag,” and “installing the dustbins.” There are also attempts at more formal or specific language, such as “dedicated path” and “fitness enthusiast.” However, several choices or combinations sound unnatural or imprecise, including “waste thrown by the walkers,” “numerous park are faciliated,” and “comfort sitting area.” Repetition of “waste,” “park,” and “workers” also limits flexibility. Choose more natural collocations and check word forms and spelling; for example, refer to litter “left by walkers” and to “seating areas.” This would make the message clearer and more idiomatic while retaining its appropriate formal tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “Since, I am fitness enthusiast” and a time clause beginning “Over the past few months.” The main message remains understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction are noticeable. For instance, “numerous park are” needs a plural noun and matching verb, while “which help me” does not agree with the singular subject “exercise.” The opening sentence beginning “As I reside” is also difficult to control because several ideas are joined together. Punctuation is sometimes inaccurate, as in “Since,” and the comma after “noticed.” Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with careful agreement and punctuation.
