Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this to publish an article through your newspaper agency. The article is about the cleanliness issue in the countryside walk way near our home.
My house is on the 2nd street of Beverly road, and there is a countryside near our house. I enjoy walking in the countryside as it is known for its quite and beautiful roads. Especially, I prefer to walk around the lake that is situated in the end of the road. It has wonderful sunset view from their.
Nowadays, I am observing that the number of walkers are increasing and they shows up with there friends and family to enjoy the walk. However, it is seen that few of them are littering near the walk way around the lake. They through fast food wrappers and plastic bottles in the road.
I tried educating them but they don't listen. So, my motive to publish this article is to highlight the issue with the locals and the authorities. So they can arrange some security gaurd to watch such activities.
I will share the photographs as a evidence along with the letter.
Kind regards,
Owais Ansari

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that you enjoy the quiet, attractive countryside and the lake, describe wrappers and plastic bottles, and propose involving local authorities and employing a guard. The purpose is clear, and the photographs offer relevant supporting evidence. This meets the task well overall, though some points are less fully developed: the location is described mainly through your home address, and the proposed guard is not explained in terms of how they would prevent littering. The opening also says you want to publish an article, rather than clearly asking the newspaper to publish a letter or raise the issue. Clarifying the request and adding practical measures, such as bins or signs, would make the response more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: purpose, enjoyment of the area, the litter problem, and a proposed response. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking words such as “However” and “So” show the relationship between ideas. Some connections are less smooth or precise, particularly the repeated “So” in the final paragraphs and the abrupt shift from describing the problem to saying you tried educating walkers. References such as “there” and “they” are not always clear, and the closing sentence about photographs feels added on rather than integrated into the request. Use more precise referencing and connect the evidence directly to what you want the newspaper to do.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “countryside,” “walkers,” “littering,” “wrappers,” and “plastic bottles.” There are also attempts at more specific description, such as “wonderful sunset view.” However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce naturalness: “countryside walk way,” “publish an article through your newspaper agency,” and “They through fast food wrappers” are awkward or incorrect. “Quite” is also used where “quiet” is intended, and “gaurd” and “there” for “their” are spelling or word-form errors. Aim for standard, precise phrases such as “publish a letter in your newspaper” and check commonly confused words and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “I enjoy walking in the countryside as it is known for…” and “I tried educating them but they don't listen.” The message remains understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “the number of walkers are increasing” should use a singular verb, while “they shows up” has incorrect agreement. “It has wonderful sunset view” needs an article, and “So they can arrange…” is a sentence fragment when separated from the preceding sentence. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and join dependent clauses to complete sentences. Greater control of these patterns would make the letter more fluent.
