Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir or mada,

i am writing to express my deistsfaction and worried about the problem in our town. every day people leaving litter in the countryside near my house.

I love walking in the local forest routinely in the weekend.it is a amazing and quiet place wehere i can realx after a busy and stressful week of work.Walking there help me stay healty and enjoy nature, for me is like a therapy.

However, during my recent walks, i noticed a lot of rubbish on the space. i saw many plastic bottles, food warppers on the paths and the gras.this is very sad beacuse it damages the environment and looks trrible.

In my view to slove this big porblem, i think we shoud do two things. Firstly,

the local concil needs to installmore bins along the walking paths. Second we shoud put up signs to remind people to respect nature and take thier trash home.

thank you for reading my letter. i hope you will publish it to help protect our country

yours faithfuly,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you explain that you walk in the local forest to relax and enjoy nature, describe bottles and food wrappers on paths and grass, and suggest installing bins and putting up signs. The purpose of writing to the newspaper is clear, and your concern about the problem is maintained throughout. The suggestions are relevant, though they could be developed further—for example, explain how signs might encourage walkers to take their rubbish home, or suggest a local clean-up. The closing also expresses a clear hope that the newspaper will publish the letter. To strengthen the response further, make the impact of the litter and the practical value of your proposed actions more specific.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from your reason for writing to your enjoyment of walking, the litter problem, and possible solutions. Paragraphing helps separate these main points, and markers such as “However,” “Firstly,” and “Second” guide the reader. However, progression within some paragraphs is less smooth: the opening combines your concern with a repeated statement about litter, while the final paragraph breaks after “Firstly,” and resumes on a new line. Some links are mechanical, and the closing feels abrupt. Use complete, consistently organised paragraphs and connect each suggestion to its intended effect. This would make the overall progression clearer and reduce the sense of separate, loosely joined statements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “countryside,” “plastic bottles,” “walking paths,” “environment,” and “respect nature.” These choices make your main message understandable, and phrases such as “a busy and stressful week” convey your personal reasons for walking. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable, including “deistsfaction,” “warppers,” and “faithfuly,” and some expressions are unnatural, such as “on the space” and “in the weekend.” The range is adequate for communicating the task, but these errors reduce precision and polish. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for describing litter, places, and formal letters.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, for example, “Walking there help me stay healthy and enjoy nature” and “I saw many plastic bottles, food wrappers on the paths and the grass.” The meaning is generally recoverable, and the response includes some sentence variety. However, there are some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries: “people leaving litter” needs a finite verb, “Walking there help” needs subject–verb agreement, and “it is a amazing” has an article error. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, with several sentences beginning in lowercase and missing spaces after full stops. Review these patterns and proofread each sentence to improve accuracy while retaining your attempts at longer structures.
