Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this to draw your attention towards a park where more and more people left thier litters and make the environment contaminated. I like walking at riverfront, Windsor. Walking unwinds me after a stressful day and provides relaxation.
From past 2 weeks, I am noticing that people throwing their garbages mainly food storage boxes. Over the time these food particles relaeses foul smell in the environment and make surroundings contaminated.
To address this issue, I believe government or local authorities should put some garbage bins, which should be replace or dump in every two days. This helps to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in surrounding areas. Another solution is food restriction. People will not be able to spread litters if they do not allow to carry food packages inside the park
Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I will be glad you found one of these suggestions helpful.
Yours faithfully,
Riya patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you explain that walking by the Windsor riverfront helps you relax, describe food packaging and food waste, and propose bins and restrictions on food packages. The purpose of writing to raise concern is clear, and the suggestions are relevant. However, some details are less fully developed: the litter description focuses mainly on food boxes and particles, while the proposed restriction is not explained in terms of how it could be enforced or whether it is practical. The opening also refers to “a park” without clearly identifying it as the riverfront area. Adding a specific example of the litter’s impact and a more workable, supported action would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the concern, explains what has been observed, offers solutions, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking phrases such as “To address this issue” and “Another solution” make the progression clear. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “From past 2 weeks” does not clearly establish the time frame, and “This helps” could refer to either the bins or the replacement schedule. The final suggestion also moves abruptly from bins to restricting food. Use clearer time expressions and refer explicitly to each proposed measure, while adding a brief transition to show how the suggestions relate.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the issue, including “food storage boxes,” “foul smell,” “garbage bins,” and “cleanliness and hygiene.” There are also attempts at more formal language, such as “draw your attention” and “consideration.” However, several word choices and forms are inaccurate or unnatural: “litters” and “garbages” are generally uncountable in this context, “food storage boxes” is less natural than “food containers,” and “food restriction” is vague. Spelling errors such as “thier” and “relaeses” are noticeable. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Focus on accurate collocations and spelling, and choose specific terms for the rubbish and proposed restrictions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “Walking unwinds me after a stressful day and provides relaxation” and a conditional sentence beginning “People will not be able to… if…”. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “people left” should use a tense consistent with the ongoing problem, and “From past 2 weeks, I am noticing” needs a more accurate time expression and verb form. In “bins, which should be replace or dump,” the verbs need correct passive forms, and the sentence structure around the food restriction is awkward. Review tense consistency, articles and prepositions, and passive constructions. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences clearer.
