Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to express my concern regarding countryside area near my home, where more and more litter left there by other walkers, and I believe this matter requires your immediate attention.
To begin with, I was fasinating to enjoy walking in the countryside area because of lively atmosphere, especially in the morning. This is to say that I can enjoy the sunrise, little drops of water at crops which makes me relax and recharge my battery for the whole day.
Unfortunately, during my walk I have noticed there were litter left of dogs, plastic bags waste, which causes a considerable inconvenience. It not only spoils someone's mood but also contributes to environmental implications.
I would therefore appreciate it if you could publish an article regarding this issue along with its consequences to aware the public. Please do not hesitate to contact me if further information is required.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing your prompt response.
Yours faithfully,
Manpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the three requested points: you explain that you enjoy the countryside in the morning, describe litter, and ask the newspaper to raise awareness. The sunrise and “little drops of water” give a personal reason for walking, while the request to publish an article is relevant. However, the litter description is unclear: “litter left of dogs” does not tell the reader what the dog-related waste is, and “plastic bags waste” is also imprecise. The proposed response is limited to an article; you could develop it by suggesting practical measures such as more bins, signs, or fines. These unevenly developed points keep the letter from fully addressing the task in detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening statement, separate paragraphs for your enjoyment and the litter, and a final request. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Unfortunately,” and “I would therefore” help show the progression, and the formal closing suits the newspaper audience. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, a few links feel mechanical, and the reference in “It not only spoils someone's mood” is not fully precise because the preceding sentence mentions both litter and inconvenience. Make the relationship between each example and its consequence clearer, and connect the proposed action more directly to the specific litter problem.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic and purpose, including “express my concern,” “considerable inconvenience,” “environmental implications,” and “publish an article.” These choices help maintain a formal tone. You also attempt more descriptive language in “lively atmosphere” and “recharge my battery,” although the latter is somewhat informal for this letter. Some inaccurate word forms and collocations reduce precision: “fasinating to enjoy,” “litter left of dogs,” and “to aware the public” are difficult or unnatural expressions. Spelling also needs attention in “fasinating.” Choose familiar, accurate phrases where needed, and check that each noun and verb combines naturally with the words around it.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “where more and more litter left there by other walkers” and the conditional request “I would therefore appreciate it if you could publish an article.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. In the opening clause, “litter left” needs a verb, such as “is being left”; “I was … to enjoy” has an incorrect verb construction; and “drops … which makes me relax” has a subject–verb agreement problem. There are also article and plural issues in “countryside area” and “there were litter.” Review verb forms, agreement, and countable versus uncountable nouns, then proofread complex sentences to ensure their clauses are complete.
